" Norman! Norman! Norman! " Hemochis calls. " Dad. " Norman calls from his room. " Aren't you coming with me....you'll get late Norman. " Hemochis says. " Go ahead dad, I'll be leaving in a short while. " Norman says. " Okay..take care. " Hemochis says as he walks out of the house boards his old Volkswagen and drives off. Norman picks his phone and makes a call.
" Is it ready? " Norman asks. " Yeah, I'll be dropping by in an hour. " The person from the other end of the call says. " Can't you make it a half an hour? " Norman asks. " Kiddo, your dad is still around. I can't risk being caught. " The person says. " Huncho, dad left a while ago. " Norman says. " I'll be there in a few. " Huncho says. " Make it quick. " Norman says as he ends the call.
Martin's home.
" Morning mom? " Martin greets.
" Morning love. " Rosa replies. " Join me for breakfast. " She adds and Martin joins her at the table.
" Isn't dad having breakfast with us? " Martin asks. " Oooh! Son, you know your dad is very busy this days....he already left for work. " Rosa replies with a plastic smile. " All you people care about is work! Work and work! " Martin says. " Hey young man don't raise your voice at me! " Rosa says. " Have breakfast and I'll drop you. " She adds. " I'm full. " Martin says. " But you barely touched your food. " Rosa says. " Mom. I'm full. " Martin says. " Okay...let's get going. " Rosa says getting up from her seat. Suddenly her phone rings. " Hello...what? Right now?......okay I'm on my way. " Rosa says and ends the call. " I'm sorry son..I can't drop you today....but I'll make it up for you later. " Rosa says dashing out of the house boards her Cadillac escalade and her driver drives off. " Morning Mat? " Martin's driver greets. " Morning Danny. " Martin replies sliding into the backseat of his G-Wagon.
Greenville High.
Martin alights and goes to the back of the school to meet up with his buddies.
" What's up dude? " Michael Martin's best friend says. " Where's Norman? " Martin asks. " He'll be here in a few. " Michael says. " Are you okay? " Michael asks. " Yeah, am good. " Martin replies. " What's taking him so long. " Martin asks. " Relax bro...I'm already here. " Norman says walking towards them. " Where's it? " Martin asks and Norman hands them each some coke and they give him money in return. They take a small amount with their fingernails and sniff the coke. They stay there for the whole of the day without attending any classes. Martin walks to his car and Danny drives off. As he drives he observes Martin through the rear back mirror. " Mat, are you okay? " Danny asks. " Yeah, am good. " Martin replies. " Lately I've noticed a sudden change in you. Are doing drugs? " Danny asks. " Not really. " Martin answers bluntly. " Meaning? " Danny asks. " Danny just drive and let me be. " Martin says.
Hours later, Martin's Nanny walks into his room.
" Son, dinner is ready. " Nanny says. " Are they back? " Martin asks. " Your mother left a while ago on a business trip and your dad isn't back yet. " Nanny says. " Work is all they ever think about! " Martin says. " If they don't work you wouldn't be having the life you're living now. " Nanny says. " Nanny, what's the importance of having a good life with no love! I've never complained that I don't have something. " Martin says. " No you haven't, because we give you everything you want. " Mendoza says walking into Martins room. " Everything you say? " Martin asks. " Yes, everything. " Mendoza replies. " Can't believe this. " Martin says walking out of the room.
" Sir, I suggest you spare sometime for him. " Nanny says.
" Come on Nanny, I've got a very tight schedule....and besides he ain't a kid anymore. " Mendoza says. " But sir_ " Nanny is cut short. " Let him be...did Rosa leave? " Mendoza asks. " Yes sir. " Nanny says then walks out of the room.
As Martin walks down the stairs the following morning, " Son, breakfast is ready. " Nanny says. " Am full Nanny." Martin replies. " But you didn't take dinn_ " Nanny is cut short. " Nanny I said am full! " Martin shouts and walks out of the house, boards his car and Danny drives off.
