I met a man with a smile on his lips,
he didn't ask my name,
but said he had seen my face,
it was in a dream-
or more a vision,
he didn't know my hometown,
but drove 643 miles to visit.
As I took my seat by the window,
he sat across from me.
"They said I would never walk,
but God gave the doctors a surprise, you see"
I didn't understand what
he was saying,
I thought he surely must be crazy,
but I kept listening as he spoke to me.
"God sent me here to share
my testimony,
I don't know your name,
or your pain,
but I see beyond the emptiness
in your bloodshot gaze"
I was hesitant to respond as he continued.
"God has great plans for
your life you see,
he sent me a vision,
a prophecy,
you helpin' millions of people
in your very own condition,
He said you might be hesitant to
my witnessin',
you've been hurt by religion."
I shook my head, and listened to the rest.
"Well I've been hurt by religion too,
they said I was a sinner
An addict livin' on the streets,
kicked me out and told
me God hated me,
but God made a promise see,
that He would never leave
or forsake me,
so even in my wilder years
he had his hands around me,
healed my legs,
and took me outta the streets,
it was miraculous,
there's no way I couldn't believe."
Stunned by what he had said I asked
"what does this have to do with me?"
"Nothing, and everything
you see,
God loves you,
and God loves me,
there ain't nothin'
better than His plan for you,
all you have to do is believe."
The old man winked as he began to walk out of the diner,
leaving me in shock.
How could God have a plan for someone as rotten as me?
But hadn't the man said he was an addict on the streets?
If He could forgive him couldn't He forgive me?
And what if the man had been right about my prophecy?
I began to repent,
for every crazy thing I had ever done,
right there in that diner.
God confirmed these questions for me:
"Be still and know that I am God."
"You are my child, and I'm glad you have returned."
