Last day of freshman year... The end of one horrible year, just to go right into the next. I mean, hopefully, next year won't be as bad. I made it into the Jazz band, plus AP Art History is running next year which will be fun, and marching season is coming up in the fall, which is always nice... Who am I kidding, next year's going to be a complete shit show.
As I was skating through the school courtyard, lost in my thoughts, I apparently wasn't paying close enough attention to where I was going and ended up bumping into someone.
"Ow!" I yelled, falling down, hearing a crack in my ankle as I hit the ground. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry for bumping into you, I should have been looking where I was going, I promise that I'll make it up to you, I swear-"
"Hey, it's alright, but are you okay?" You kinda look like you're about to cry," My rambling apology got cut off by a soft voice. I look up to see a tall boy with slightly curly hair and glasses, his hand stuck out to help me up, which I gladly took... But fell right back down again, once again hearing my ankle crack.
"Ow!" I screamed, once again.
"Oh my god, is she okay? Richie what did you do to her?" Another boy ran up to us. He was short, had on a collared short-sleeve shirt, and a fanny pack... Interesting fashion choices.
"Man, I didn't do anything! She bumped into me and fell, I think she hurt her ankle or something, I heard it crack," He said, bending over to help me up again. "Okay, just lift up the ankle that hurts. I'm going to walk you over to that bench over there, okay?" The boy named Richie asked me. I nodded and did as he said, fighting back tears. He walked very slowly, rolling me along the pavement over to the bench, where we both sat with the other boy, one of them on each side of me.
"Well, I think some introductions are in order," I said, taking off my skates and rubbing my ankle. "My name is Avery Scott... and I'm very clumsy..." I said sitting back up and shaking the hands of the two boys next to me.
"Okay, well... I'm Richie Tozier, and I have noticed that you're clumsy..." He laughed slightly, making me giggle. I then turned to the other boy.
"Hello, Avery, I'm Eddie Kaspbrack, but are you okay? You seem to be in a lot of pain," He asked, looking at my ankle, which was already bruising. He took a bandage out of his fanny pack and started to wrap my ankle.
"It hurts a lot, but I think I will be okay... Why do you carry that around?" I asked, gesturing to the bandage.
"Never know when you're going to need it," He answered simply, and secured the bandage before standing up.
"Well, thank you both very much, but I really must be going, my father will kill me if I'm not home by 4," I said, carefully putting my skates back on, wincing in pain, then trying to stand up, but falling back down.
"I don't think that's such a great idea, Hot Stuff, come sit down, we're waiting for some people, but I'm sure that one of our friends will give you a ride home or something," Richie said, helping me up and trying to bring me back to the bench.
"No, it's really okay. I don't want to get in any trouble for being late. I can do it," I said, getting myself up and skating a few feet, but once again falling. I look back to the two boys on the bench and sigh as Richie helps me back.
"Why don't you give her a ride, Richie?" Eddie asked, pulling a water bottle out of his bag.
"My mom's gonna be here any minute, I have an eye doctors appointment that I'm already late for," He laughed, lightly.
"That makes sense... I would give you a ride home, Avery, but my mom doesn't let me ride my bike to school, she thinks I'll get hit by one of the busses," Eddie said, looking down.
