"Ate!
It was Joshua, one of our childhood friends who lives two houses from ours. He's a year younger than Natalee.
"What?" tinaasan ko siya ng kilay.
"Where are your socks?" he made a face na nakakaasar.
"Oh yeah," I bobbed my head and kinuha ang black knee high socks ko sa bag.
"Stupid." Joshua scoffed.
Papatulan ko na sana, but his older brother, Quin, glared at us both. Natahimik kaming dalawa and Natalee chuckled. Sinandal ni Quin ang ulo niya sa bintana and went back to sleep.
"Good morning!" I greeted Quin at naglakad ako palapit sa kanya. Hindi ko napigilan ang ngiti ko. He looked so handsome kahit na he was still half-asleep.
"Morning." he yawned.
He frowned, "What?" Mukhang nainis.
He sighed at napasapo siya sa noo, "You always manage to make my head hurt, Evie."
"Oh how I wish talaga, Joaquin!" I thought, natawa na din ako.
I've known Quin all my life.
His mom, Tita Chelle, had been best friends with mine since their med school years. Because of that, naging mag kumpare na din sila daddy at Tito Dennis. They even got a lot two houses from ours and doon nagpatayo ng bahay.
We've been really good friends ever since preschool, at dahil sa mas marupok pa ko sa sapatos ni Cinderella, hindi ko naiwasang mahulog sa kanya.
Good thing, for me, na pinupush kami nila tita at mommy dahil gusto nilang maging mag balae. At first, ang alam kong usapan nila since college is to set their first borns up, but nauna na sila mommy magkaanak and ate Laia Rose was three years ahead of us.
Another med school couple, they say.
We were all expected na mag-aral din ng medicine sa alma mater nila mommy, The University of Santo Tomas. Pati sila Joshua at Natalee ay walang kawala. Si Ate Laia Rose nga, biology major na doon for her pre med. Ginusto niya kaya iyon?
What if hindi naman ako kasing galing nila? What if hindi naman ako doon sasaya?
Si Quin kaya?
Gusto niya ba?
It was time for the morning assembly and students were lined up according to our sections.
"Bye!" I smiled and waved at Quin.
He just shook his head at pumunta na sa section nila.
I waved my hair.
We laughed and the assembly started.
