It was a cloudy morning and was probably going to rain. I might as well go to school now. leaving for school was the easy part, but surviving was the key. Especially if you are the weird quiet girl that no one ever gives a second glance too except to make fun of. Navigating through the over crowded hallway to my locker grabbing everything I needed for the day. First period was Calculus which was way too early in the morning. Walking into the classroom and seeing none other that Emily Smith, sister to Elizabeth Smith the leader of Poison Jinx. I walked over to my seat in the back of the room with my head down. I would rather not be noticed by Emily, she personally was ok, but I rather not be associated with them. The day was going so far very well no one really mentioned he presence to her relief. She had spoken too soon just as the lunch time rolled around Halley found herself stuck between her locker and the school's biggest bully, James White. The dude has been after her since she had an episode in freshman year. James White used his height and strength to intimidate Halley even though she was just three inches shorter than him. Halley hates bullies with a passion and oh so wanted to punch James in the nose. She was never scared of him, all she wanted to do was keep herself as invisible as possible, even if that meant taking a beating or verbal abuse every once in a while, she was willing.

Most would call Halley a nobody to which she would agree with, but one person thought differently. Mrs. Heidrich the school's councilor. Mrs. Heidrich was in her mid-thirties when she met Halley. Their meeting was not the most conventional but nonetheless it could have been worse. It had been just like this with Halley's back to the lockers and a group of kids surrounding her, picking on her. Mrs. Heidrich always stepped in when she could, but she wasn't around all the time to stop them. Mrs. Heidrich made it a priority to see Halley every two weeks to check up on her. And just like that first day she stepped in and chased off James and his crew. Turning around Mrs. Heidrich asked Halley if she was okay

"Mhm" Halley answered

"Just remember our meeting for tomorrow" Mrs. Heidrich replied as she walked off back to her office.

One thing Halley really enjoyed about her was that she did not push for a response and let you choose how or when or even if you decide to talk. Halley never really talked to Mrs. Heidrich about what really happened. She knew Mrs. Heidrich was getting  antsy which is expected since she has patiently been waiting for the truth. What really happened that night that caused Halley to break. Maybe she should write the story down and give it to Mrs. Heidrich on the last day of school. The lunch bell rang snapping Halley out of her mind. Soon she was racing out of the school as the final bell rang. Other than the incident during lunch Halley was left unscathed for the day. On her way back to the orphanage she picked up the other kids by age groups till they were all back "home."

"Halley" the demon called

"Yes Erna" she called back

" Make sure the others get their homework done and you make them dinner" said Erna

"Ok" Halley answered.

Erna Gully are "guardian" and owner of the orphanage. She moved to America from Norway when she was seven months old. No one liked Erna, she was a mean old lady that threw you to the wolves no matter the age. Halley once caught her with Jack, a fourteen year old boy just recently orphaned, who she locked in the closet. Apparently to Erna he had broken her favorite mug when in fact she had dropped it herself. Halley was so pissed off and filled with rage that she negotiated out a deal that she would take care of the kids and would take all the punishment as long as Erna would never again lay a finger on the kids. From that day forward Halley became their true guardian. Once everyone was fed, finished their homework, done their chores, and had gotten ready for bed Halley finally went up to her own room to get her homework done. In the middle of her last math equation for the night she heard a knock at her door "Come in, it's unlocked" Halley called from her des. As the door opened slowly, it revealed all the children including the older ones just standing there in a huddle.
