It took just one look to know. And only one touch to understand. That even if it was dangerous you couldn't let him go. And neither could he.

You walked in Volterra looking at the beautiful streets that you knew so well. You were born here after all and lived for fifteen years until the day your parents were brutally murdered by a wild animal. You ran away. You travelled around the world only to be back here. Where it all ended for your parents but it stared again for you.

It was late, the Sun was down and a full moon was the only night. You walked in a dark street to make it to your apartment when suddenly you heard someone walking behind you. You sighed thinking it was your friend that you met earlier, who tried to go out with you. His crush on you went on for about six years now and you still tried to tell him that you didn't need a man. "I really don't need any man to make me happy, Lorenzo. I'm really sorry but I..." You stopped when you turned around only to be met with a tall very pale, nearly white haired man with unusually red eyes.
"Oh... Oh... Pardon me I took you for my friend." You smiled softly at him. Not knowing why you felt a very hard pull towards the man. He smiled at you before replying "Mi scusi, mia signora, I didn't mean to strattle you." (Excuse me, my lady) he bowed his head as his smile grew more loving. "It's not a problem... Who are you?" You asked intrigued. His appearance was very unique and the pull towards him was so strong that it made you dizzy. "Of course, where are my manners... I'm Caius. And who might the beauty before me be?" He asked with a small smirk as he saw your s/c turn pink on your cheeks. You ran a hand in your h/l h/c Hair before smiling "I'm Y/N. It's very nice to meet you, Caius" you said softly and he walked closer to you. His cold hand touched your rosy cheek. "I am a dangerous man, mio Caro." (my Dear). You looked confused at him, before his eyes turned a darker colour and you gasped. "You are him..." You whispered shocked. Now remembering something. Red eyes, screams and blood. "A Vampire..." You breathed. You knew about the legends of Voltera. Of the three Kings that ruled upon Vampires. And now seeing the eyes and feeling the cold skin made you believe in the legends. "Indeed, my love. But it seems you aren't scared." He looked at you with a raised eyebrow and a soft smile. "I'm not. I feel safe around you but I should hate you. Your kind." You said lowly and your eyes narrowed. He took his hand away, hurt evident in his eyes. It was new to him. Or maybe not new but it was a long time since he felt love for a woman. And these feelings were long forgotten until now. "Why? Did someone hurt you? Show me and I'll make them pay." He said as he felt rage in his body. Someone dared to hurt his mate? There was no mercy. "My parents died protecting me from a woman. Red eyes, pale cold skin. A wicked smile. Her name was Athenodora... She wanted to kill me yelling something about steeling her man..." His eyes narrowed. This woman tried for a long time to get him to be her husband but it never worked for he knew about his mate. He knew they existed and he wanted to wait. And today his lovely mate hated him. Hated his kind. Because of the crazy woman naming herself his wife-to-be.
"Do not worry, Love. She will not be near you anymore. I promise I will protect you." He said softly trying not to scare you away. "How can you promise my safety if me being a human is dangerous to be your mate?" You asked knowing well that it wouldn't end well. Caius let out a hearty laugh and pinned you to the wall holding you tightly but not tight enough to hurt you. "I am one of the Kings. They will not land a hand on you. They won't touch you nor look at you. You are Mine" You let out a shaky breath. On one hand you wanted to run and hide, on the you wanted him to kiss you, to touch you and to be with you. "Caius... I do not know you... But I feel..." You stopped as you didn't actually know what you felt. It was love, desire but also fear. Fear of getting hurt. "I know, Mio Caro... I know" He whispered before his cold lips kissed yours softly. You didn't respond. You wanted to but your mind told you about what his kind have done to your parents and you knew from his eyes colour that he too fed on humans. So you pushed him away. "I will not give myself to a blood drinking monster! Vampires are evil and no matter how hard you will try... I... I'm sorry. I will not be your toy." You said before walking away with tears in your eyes. You never looked back to see him longingly look at you with understanding in his eyes. He was a monster. He drank human blood. And he knew that his mate will react like that. But your words made his dead heart broke. "Mia Cara... I will change... For you..." He quietly promised before speeding away to the castle to take care of Athenodora.
