“This has to be done tonight, or we won’t survive for more than three days of winter”. A little boy was listening to his parents talk in the kitchen about a terrible matter. “they are willing to give us food for the winter months to come, what will she matter if she’s going die along with us anyway?” His father had been sitting quiet at the table while the mother laid out all the arguments. The arguments to sell their 6 month old daughter, the boy’s beloved little sister, to the slave trader. She would be brought up a slave to work from the day she can carry burden or be brought up an amuser if she turned out pretty in her teens, to entertain and please the men that desired to be pleased. And the little boy, Bellamy Blake, would never let that happen.
The claimers would arrive at midnight and Bellamy’s parents wouldn’t let them go empty handed, he knew this. For that he hated them, and for that he also left the same night, with the precious Octavia in his arms. Leaving his parents to starve for they would have nothing to trade.
For years it felt, they travelled. Bellamy begged at the streets for money in every town they passed, freezing in alleys at night with Octavia safely tucked in his jacket. In time, Bellamy began to steal food and pickpocket people, get himself and Octavia new clothes as they grew. But fate would have it that he one day got caught. The infamous Sir. Kane caught Bellamy red handed trying to put an ancient watch in his jacket. Bellamy managed to escape his grip but fell over a small box on the floor and made damage to the watch. Sir. Kane was furious and demanded the watch to be paid for. Bellamy, poor and homeless Bellamy, who had two mouths to feed couldn’t. At that moment the now 5 year old Octavia stepped in. Seeing the whole situation, sir. Kane, who had some kind of heart, offered Bellamy to work off the payment at his shop and also give them food and shelter. Soon Octavia started to help paying it off, but the watch was rare and expensive and the pay was low. But they had what mattered the most, food, although not very good, shelter, although on the floor in the attic, but it was more than they had had in a long time. Bellamy just hoped that he didn’t have to live like this for the rest of his life.
