I searched all over the palace. Bedrooms. Kitchens. Everywhere. Snow was nowhere to be found. She had actually left. I looked behind me instinctively in case this was some sort of elaborate prank where she would be following me everywhere. Nope.

Hours went by. Days went by. It has been a week. There was no sign of her. As the days passed, the kingdom got colder and rivers were smothered by ice.

The door was smashed open. Rioters, I thought. Or maybe protestors. I wasn't even surprised. I'm very aware that the rich keep getting richer and the poor keep getting poorer. I didn't move. All I did was lock my door and wait for them to give up or break the door open. I heard an aggressive turn of the doorknob followed by a sigh of defeat. Then I heard Snow's voice.
"Let me in."
"Snow?"

I was disappointed that it wasn't an angry crowd ready to destroy the castle, but she is alive. That should be a good thing, I suppose. When I opened the door, I was shocked. She was covered in mud and blood. Worse, she was paler than ever. For the first time in years, I was worried about her.

"What happened to you? You look terrible."
Snow just brushed me off and went down to her room. Still the same as before.
"Whatever. You always look terrible anyway."

I go back and sag down into my bed to think. What could've happened to her? I bet she fell or was attacked. Probably attacked, a fall wouldn't make her go pale days later. Or maybe it's not her, maybe it's some doppelgänger or demon or something. As long as she's not a threat to me, I couldn't care less.
