With hands tightly gripping the straps of her bag, Mina took a deep breath as she stood outside the entrance of her new school. Behind the closed door, the cacophony of squeals and commotion from students almost deafened her, sending her heart racing like a freight train and making her feel slightly lightheaded. The unpleasant flavor of nerves lingered in her mouth, a clear sign of her anxiety. Mina, once again, tightened her grip on the straps, scrunching them up. Maybe her anxiety was playing tricks, but the wooden door seemed to pulsate with every loud noise emanating from the other side.
To give some context, it was probably obvious, but Mina had never been to school before. Her free-spirited, hippie mom had homeschooled her, believing that the traditional academic system corrupted young minds. She wasn't the best teacher, but it had been just her and Mina. Mina's father had left before she was even born, something to do with her mom being a foreigner. However, it had never impacted their lives. They had each other, and that was all that mattered... until Mina lost her too.
Sadly, Mina's mom passed away three years ago, and ever since then, Mina had been passed around from one family to another. There had been no stable home since then. Nobody wanted to deal with the "foreigner's bastard child," as they would say.
Since her passing, Mina had barely mentioned her. It hurt too much to think about her absence, so she pretended her mom was just out grocery shopping, taking her time while admiring the daisies, like she used to do. Mina knew it wasn't true, but it was the only way she could cope. Everything was so new, and she missed her terribly.
With a mixture of anxiety and anticipation swirling within, Mina took another deep breath and pushed open the imposing door. She quickly stopped in her tracks as she scanned her new surroundings, trying to absorb it all. Students were everywhere! Mina knew a school had students, but had never expected so many. They dashed through the hallways, bumping into each other, while others stood around chatting animatedly with their friends. This was it, her new life. There was no turning back now.

Standing at a distance was a notorious student, someone who sent shockwaves through the school the moment he set foot in it. Everyone knew about him, yet nobody dared to approach him. He was the type of person who, once he set his sights on something, there was no going back. And his eyes were fixed on me, the fresh meat that had just entered his domain.
This was going to be a long ass ride.
