Galaxies and the universe are a figment of the human imagination. Trickery on our end. We fairies have seen a lot over the years. Running jokes about the human realm, and other times filled with concern over what our kind has done to theirs.
Before I get too lost in thought, let me explain what I mean by all of this. We know the 'universe' as two dimensions; the human realm and the fairy realm. Long ago, fairies discovered the ability to traverse to the human realm and appeared before people as what they refer to, an angel. This set off a chain reaction of humans venerating fairies and angels, saints, gods, demons, you name it. As civilization developed, fairies sometimes assumed the roles of leaders and kings and asserted dominance over humans. This was before fairies discovered the ability to hide from the human eye. We were able to roam the earth, checking up on our work and progress, rather than fooling them into worshipping us. Simply put, fairies that wanted to be seen would be seen.
We are responsible for mimicking conditions essential for the survival of beings situated on earth. There are three species of fairies; Caeli, Aqua, and Silva. Caeli are the air fairies; the only species of fairies to have wings. Aqua fairies are quite straight forward; water fairies, which humans refer to as mermaids. Silva fairies are the fairies of the forest and have the unique ability to blend with elements to create life. Storms are a result of a perfect blend between Caeli and Aqua. All three species combined can create animals, plants, and humans. There is one more 'species' if you could call it that. Some describe it as the Caeli when the sun goes down; the dark fairy called Inferis. This specific ability is limited to a lineage of Caeli fairies. Humans worshipped gods by the name of Persephone and Hades, which somewhat explain what the Inferis fairies are responsible for. They claim the souls and transfer them into the other realm. Constant harmony between birth and death.
It is also noteworthy to state that fairies are not constantly working in order to prevent the human world from crumbling. We create systems and cycles within our own realm that mimic themselves on earth.
We are also accompanied by Nymphs and Dwarves, who allow us all to live quite comfortably. Nymphs essentially mimic the role of animals on earth. They help with things such as pollination, keeping the waters clean, and caring for the animalium. Their defining characteristics entail mildly green etches within their skin and elongated, pointy ears. Dwarves, on the other hand, are more ingenious; they are responsible for the creation of currency, trading goods, and mining. They are quite a homey and friendly folk who have worked hard to get recognition amongst the other species. It should also be noted that they are very short.
Lastly, we have trolls, who are known for their size and brawn.
Once upon a time, all species lived in harmony. Trolls were our friends; they helped us ensure the elements worked, they helped dwarves mine, and they helped nymphs take care of the animalium. But something changed. They became our enemy. Our realm never truly recovered from the betrayal.
