I woke up lying on the cold stones that made up the shore line next to the lake. The morning sun was reflecting on the waves as they softly lapped against the waters edge. Suddenly I realized that I was naked!
"What the! My god what happened to me!"  And to make matters worse, there was a man walking towards me!  I quickly went into panic mode. I tried to cover myself the best I could. My head was down. I was afraid to make eye contact with the stranger.
"Are you alright?" He asked gently.  What could I say?  My mind was racing. How do I explain myself!  I slowly looked up into the most beautiful dark brown eyes I had ever seen.
"Y-yeah I'm alright," I sighed, attempting to get up.  He politely looked away as I continued to cover myself.
"S-sorry, this is so embarrassing" I sputtered as I could feel my face heating up. "Believe it or not, I really don't know how I got here."

He cleared his throat "Those are some nasty scratches on your back. I know you probably feel disorientated, but it's normal. This must be your first time."

"What do you mean first time."

"Just give me a second" said the man.
He ran back in the direction he came.

I slowly made my way towards the camp site hoping no one else had seen me. I looked over at the trees that lined the shore, their leaves starting to change, and the mix of red, orange and green. I tried to concentrate on their beauty to calm me a bit.  The man returned holding a flowered sheet. Stopping a few feet from me, he held it out, looking away as I reached to take it. I quickly wrapped myself and thanked him. As I stood there, I noticed how tall he was, maybe four of five inches taller then me. His lean mussels slightly visible under the white tee shirt he was wearing, his faded blue jeans hung low on his waist. His brown hair was slightly messy and swept across his face, that was slightly pink from his run.
"Hopefully those people won't miss their sheet. I think you need it more than they do." he chuckled.
I could feel a swooping sensation in my stomach as I smiled back.
"My name is Tom, Tom Holland. I know this is a strange way to meet, but I knew something must be wrong." he said.
"I should get back to my camp site to, well..."   I gestured to my sheet clad body "to get some actual clothes on."  I barely took a step when it hit me. I remembered what happened!
"Wait" I turned slightly to look at him. "I remember!"
His hand nervously scratched the back of his head, "Just what do you remember."  he said apprehensively.

"Well, I was going to go camping with my friends Amy and Wayne.  Amy, decided to invite this other guy to make it even. You know, two boys, two girls." Tom nodded as I continued. "When she showed up at my place to pack the van, her friend got out of her car. I thought the dude looked super creepy. He had long greasy hair that was tied low on the nape of his neck and his eyes actually looked almost black.  Amy never did have much sense when it came to guys, and I couldn't just say no, so we finished loading the van and the four of us took off for the camp ground. After we arrived, we hiked to the camp sight. Us girls were in one tent and the guys were in another. Anyways, it was an impressive full moon. After we all went to bed, i heard what sounded like Wayne screaming for a few seconds, then then all was quiet. Amy and I looked out of our tent and saw something huge rip through the other tent. We jumped out and ran towards the road, but whatever it was, quickly caught up with us and pounced, knocking us both to the ground. It sunk it's teeth into Amy!  I heard a painful scream and managed to break free with just these scratches on my back. I wanted to help her but it was too late. The thing ripped her to pieces. I ran away as fast as I could.  I thought my heart was going to pound through my chest. Then I think I passed out."

Tom put his hands on my shoulders, and looked into my eyes.  "I can't imagine how freighted you must have been."   He brushed the hair away from my face, "Sorry to hear about your friends, but I'm glad you survived, and I believe I know what happened."
"So what was it!" I asked.  "Have you ever heard of a werewolf?"
"A werewolf? Are you crazy?"
"No, I'm not crazy, because it happened to me too. It was my brother.  We shared a bedroom at home, I didn't even know anything had happened to him untill one night after I was asleep he changed. I think something deep inside must have told him not to kill me. I got away with just a bite."  Tom held up his hand, and I saw his pinky finger was missing. He smiled shyly, tucking his hands in his pockets.
"Did I become one of those things?" I said in unbelief.
"I'm afraid so. You were infected by those scratches on your back. You probably shouldn't go back to your camp site. Let's go over to the cabin I rented, and I'll try to explain.
"This is unbelievable." I said.
Tom was walking close to me, and I could feel a strange attraction to him. It was like my senses were amplified. Sight, smell, hearing, I never felt more alive. As we arrived at his cabin, he turned to face me. His hand brushed across my forehead and tucked my red hair behind my ear.
"You are so beautiful, and this big bad wolf could just not resist, little red..."   Then suddenly his lips met mine. I'm usually not very aggressive, but I threw my arms around him and squeezed tight. Things never felt so right. How could this be happening?  I just met him!  I felt the sheet fall to the ground, but I didn't care.
"We better get inside." he said.  He grabbed the sheet and I followed him.  "Here, please sit on the couch, I'll get you something to drink."   He came back with a glass of water and an oversized shirt that I quickly put on.
"I'm sorry if I acted too forward outside." I said.
"No no, I understand. It's easy for emotions to run wild in times like this." he said, as he sat down beside me. "There are a lot of things you will have to get used to. The heightened emotions is only one. Lights will appear brighter, sounds will seem louder, and the emotions, well, you will have to learn how to control them."  As I stared at him, I was already finding that hard to do.
"Will it happen again? I mean, will I change again?"
He put his arm around me and whispered, "Every time there is a full moon."
"Shit! What can I do? I don't want to hurt anyone!"
"That's why I am here at this campground. I try to get away from the population. The first thing you should do is buy a lunar calendar, so you know just when it will happen, because there is nothing that can stop it. Sometimes it helps to have a partner like me, like a mini support group, until you can get a handle on things."
"You mean you will help me?"  I pleaded.
"Of course I will!  The full moon lasts three or four nights, and it started last night when you were infected. And there are bastards out there that hunt us. We need to stick together to be safe. When you change, it's like the lights going out. And the next morning you will wake up, just like you did today. You won't remember a thing. And like I said, if you can isolate yourself from other people, they will be safer. There's one other thing that works well. If you are with another werewolf of the opposite sex, gosh how can I say this, well...  you might be too interested in each other to go out on the prowl."
"Wow, this is really a lot to take in." I said.  "If it means keeping other folks safe, would you mind if I stayed with you tonight? Because I sure don't want to hurt anyone."
He gave me a gentle squeeze. "Are you positive?" he said.
"I don't seem to have any choice. And what are these hunters you were talking about."
"Unfortunately that is actually the biggest danger. They are a secret society that have been hunting ware wolfs since the dark ages. And it's not just a bunch of villagers with torches and pitchforks. These are high tech professional mercenaries with the latest night vision equipment, and high power weapons."
"Shit! I'm definitely staying with you!"  He pulled me closer, "Now I'm not trying to scare you, but you just need to know the facts. Let me fix us something to eat. It's best to start out with a full stomach. I don't want you to take a chunk out of me, because things can get a little crazy."
"So you've done this before? I mean, with another werewolf?"
"Sweetheart, I am 247 years old. You might say, I've been around the block a few times." he said, with a comical tone to his voice.

We spent the rest of the day playing board games and watching TV, just waiting, waiting for the change. Inside I was terrified but I kept concentrating on him, hoping he could help me through it.

As the final twilight left the windows, Tom turned on some lights and I began to cry. "I'm so frightened, I don't want this to happen!"
He put his arms around me. "Please don't cry, I won't let anything happen to you. It's really not so bad, you will just fall asleep."  Just as he said that, everything faded to black.
I tried so hard to maintain my grip on reality, but it all slipped away into darkness.  The next thing I knew I found myself on the couch with the familiar sheet over me. I could smell bacon and eggs and sat up seeing Tom at the stove.
"Well good morning sleepy head!" he said. He was wearing a funny kitchen apron, and that's all he was wearing.  "Did it happen?" I said.
"I believe so. I tried to straighten up some, the place was a wreck. The TV had to go in the trash can. We must have had a wild party. See those scratches on the wall?  I don't know if you were trying to get away from me, or maybe I was trying to get away from you!"
We both broke into laughter. It was like a feeling of relief. I made it through the night!  Later we went for a walk by the lake. I stopped and stared at the place where Tom had found me.
"What are you thinking?" he asked.
"I don't know, nothing I suppose. It's just hard to believe how much my life has changed."
"You will get used to it, one day at a time, just one day at a time."
"Tom, will you hold me."  He put his arms around me and our lips met. It seemed like the kiss lasted for a minute, hours or even days before we gently pulled apart.
Was I falling in love with a wolf? Just then I heard police sirens. Had someone discovered my friends bodies?  Shit! I was so caught up in things, that I forgot all about it. Tom grabbed my hand.
"We need to go back to the cabin!"
We began to run. Damn, could I run fast!  As soon as Tom shut the door he said we needed to leave. I helped him throw a few things in his car and we were gone.
"Shit Tom, if they search the camp site they will find my things. My drivers license, home address, everything!"  "Now calm down, they won't find you. They will never locate your body. For all they know you died with the rest of them. It will be on the news, teens killed while camping, by a bear or something."
"But where will I go, what will I do?"

Tom had a calming tone to his voice. "You are with me now. I can get you a new identity. I have connections. Remember, I'm 247 years old. I have more money than you could ever imagine. Your life is only beginning."
