Ouch! Gideon shouted in pain, as the nail protruded from the wooden slab on which he is floating, piercing through the wound on his left forearm. Blood came running united with the ocean. Hearing his scream, Ison and Erick lifted their faces slightly from their wooden pieces and gazed at him with mercy. Poor boy he just turned sixteen now, Ison thought. He remembered seeing this little man for the first time at his door a few months before, asking for a summer internship. A month passed and he enthusiastically jumped into this voyage to conduct research on "Deep Sea Mining." It was all good when I started, he whispered. The goodbye waves of his little champ David and wife Helen, words muttered in his ear, kisses placed on his forehead, all flashed for a few seconds through his mind, "we lost in this sea," he sighed.
Gideon, Bart, Erick, and Ison are floating through the sea for almost 4 days. Something got caught to Erick's eyes. It's a Rock... he screamed. Others looked in the direction Erick was showing, with hope. It may be a mirage in a sea alike desert, Bart said. It is an island, the boy screamed in joy, hoping for survival.
The sky is dull and dim as if the red-hot sun went for a nap, maybe 4'o o'clock in the evening Ison thought to himself while struggling to firm foot on the land. He has no idea why his mind is wandering elsewhere putting poetic remarks over sky rather focusing on the just found land. His mind did not tend to believe the chain of incidents that happened for the past few days right from the arrival of the hurricane which totally crashed the vessel they had travelled, distressed days and nights floating over the vast sea having hope of getting help, fantasizing of food and water. When his feet touched the land, he felt his leg resisting to move as it was happily resting and floating for the past few days. Erick, Gideon, and Bart are just walking before him in most fervour and zest, though they too struggle hard to recover from inertia.
Gideon, followed by Erick sat under the shadow of that giant rock which led them here. Ison went near Bart and sat beneath a tree aside. A cool breeze kissed them, 'a warm welcome to the heavenly land' Bart said. Due to the dreary drift through sea and hunger, he collapsed and so closed his eyes and slept quickly. But Gideon got alert and looked around the place. A small marshland, topped by deep silence. Neither chirping of birds or insects nor hisses of snakes heard. By then Ison is lost in his thoughts, he can even suffer a lot more miseries, hunger and pain. Because he lives for, lives with and lives by the memories of his family and dreamed of returning to them.
Gideon and Bart slowly stood up. They didn't disturbed Erick and Ison.
