They wouldn't dream of sending a GIRL abroad when she is supposed to get married and be with her husband. Thus they fixed her engagement with her 32 year old cousin Ali Zafar. No one asked for Farhana's approval and Faru had no say in that. She had no choice. Her parents were happy as Ali Zafar was a very wealthy man. Her brother Abdullah was ready to help Farhana study abroad but he too was helpless cause any act of rebellion against the authoritive figures in the family could end up fatal. Faru, strongly against this, decided to take her own life by buying poison from a local shop nearby and was about to drink but then she got caught by her mother. Her mother snatched the poison threw it away and told Farhana, "We are born female and we are born to respect and provide for the stronger gender, I know you wanted to study medicine but being born a female you must sacrifice your dream for the betterment of your family and your husband's family." Faru was not really surprised at what her mum just said but at the same time was shocked. Didn't her mum have any dreams of her own? Didn't her mum have any courage to follow her dreams? How can her mum just keep quiet and do everything what the STRONGER gender tells her to do? Being a female, a mother who already lost one daughter, shouldn't she understand and try to help the other daughter atleast? Faru wanted to ask these questions but then her mum told her to get ready for the mosque and left the room before she could open her mouth.
One night, two months later, Faru went to her parents' house crying. She had bruises all over her body and a black eye. Her mother opened the door and was shocked to see her, not cause of the bruises but cause she felt she was supposed to be withhusband. Her mother told her to go back and said she will ask her father to talk to Ali. But Farhana wanted a divorce. Her mother slapped her hard across the face and said it was a sin for a woman to get a divorce from her husband cause society will shun her and her family and told her this one act could bring disgrace to the whole family. Her father also came to the door to see what the ruckus was about. When Faru's mother told her father everything, he told Farhana to get out of the house and learn to be a better wife. Farhana was infuriated and she marched out of the house. She decided to get a divorce by herself. She knew it was hard but she would do it. She went to her husband's home that night. Yes, her husband's home, not hers'. She would never consider that pig sty where her husband repeatly raped her, tortured her, abused her and even cheated on her with multiple women, the place of hell where she never had a voice, HER HOME.
