"Slytherin!" The raggedly old hat said breaking me from my nervous day dream, cheers erupted from the far left of the great hall. Glancing from my feet, I checked who was sitting on the rickety three legged stool. An oldish boy sat beneath the hat with a broad smile after hearing his house being boomed across the room, he almost looked to old to be a first year. His bleach blonde hair was slicked back showing his defined cheek bones, his emerald eyes locked with mine and his smile faded into a look of bewilderment and lust.

Lights seemed to flash in them flicking gold and green, I could see my future my dreams, my hopes, my fears. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul but his were unexplained. Seeing my reaction to him made his thin lips curl into a smug smile. He'd seen me. As the cheers from Slytherin house faded he sauntered past me and winked, I bite my lip in excitement. I felt someone tap my shoulder, I flicked my head around to see Sirius Black standing behind me, we had shared a carriage on the train and had hit it off instantly. He looked down at me- he thought he was so special just because he was taller than me, but the truth is my tiny physique was small against everyone.

"Ebony? Oi oi are you eyeballing a Malfoy?" He said a wide smile spread across his face, in a older brother teasing way. "Aye Jame-" He was cut short by a shrill Scottish voice calling his name. A sheet of white covered his once rosy cheeks. He stumbled forward, I couldn't help but laugh at the cool calm collected Sirius was scared of a dusty hat. A strong arm wrapped itself subtly around my cloaked waist as Gryiffindor was called for Sirius.

"Hes gonna be so pissed at that- well maybe his family will be" Remus- another boy from the train- chuckled to himself in my ear. Knowing that every black was a Slytherin, I glanced over my other shoulder and saw James Potter- a tall, cheeky looking boy staring up at the ceiling in amazement holding onto his gold rimmed glasses.

"It looks like James is hard over the ceiling" I whispered back to Remus, as another name was called. My heart was pounding faster than it have ever pounded before. Only me and 2 other people left now. Both James and Remus were sorted into Gryfindor, they seemed over the moon as the went to join Sirius. I was so undecided on the house I wanted, any seemed good. What if I never get a house? What if I'm not good enough? Thoughts like this raced round my head as if a snitch in a Quidditch match.

"Poppy Snograss" A tall ginger girl went to sit under the hat. The hat had barely touched her head when Hufflepuff was called. Now just me.

I slowly walked over to the stool and sat myself down politely, I glanced up at the rows of students staring at me. Then I saw him again. A 'Malfoy' Sirius had said. We locked eyes again and the rest was a blur nothing mattered more than finding out who he is, the only thing that broke me from my day dream was an eruption of cheers coming from his direction.

I got into Slytherin.

I looked towards my new found friends sitting at the Grythindor table- even they were cheering for me. I think they knew before me I was going to be Slytherin, I knew in that moment that they were going to be my best friends.

'Be quiet Ebony' I told myself as I took my seat diagonally across from Malfoy. The head teachers voice boomed across the great hall- welcoming the first years and setting the rules in place. My older brothers and sisters had told me all this before. Noise of laughing and talking erupted like a tsunami washing over me, I looked at plate and food had appeared! Blake and Ciaran would tease me with all the terrors that lay behind some of the doors in this castle. But always spoke well of the feasts! Thinking about my brothers I gazed around the sea of Ravenclaw cloaks til I saw our matching inky black hair and pale complexion. They weren't even looking in my direction, they seemed to be chatting up some other 5th years at there table. The heartthrobs of Hogworts apparently, I shook my head at the thought. Seeing I was getting no brotherly love I looked for Clarice on the Gryffindor table but instead I was greeted by the smiling faces of Remus, James and Sirius.
