Him

Wow, Angst. We're off to a great start, aren't we?

John yawned as he looked through his phone. He opened Instagram and saw the recent pictures his friends had posted.

He scrolled through each post until he came across an old photo of him.

The photo was taken about a year ago from the looks of it. His hair was long, (John cut his hair in this one) and he wore a grey shirt with a picture of a tortoise and blue jeans.

Then he saw him. The man of his dreams. His boyfriend, Alex, right beside him. The two were smiling at the camera, Alex making a peace sign from his hand. (Bro I suck at descriptions gfhebdgsy)

He sighed and tore his eyes from the picture. Silent tears began to run down his face. He choked back a sob and wiped his tears away.

They said was an accident. They said it wouldn't happen. John's thoughts grumbled, and he pushed them back.

"Mr. Laurens?"

John turned off his phone, looking up. A young woman with chocolate-colored hair was staring at him. She wore a regular doctor's outfit: black pants, black shoes, and a massive white coat. Her hair was put into a low ponytail, and she brushed some of it out of her face.

"They're ready to see you now." She spoke softly, not waiting for an answer, before helping John up.

"Thanks." He mumbled, and followed her to a strange room full of metal tables and enclosures.

He admired the room a bit before turning to the woman, who had stopped to speak with a man who, from the looks of it, was a scientist.

The man spotted John and beckoned him over, a grave look on his face.

"Mr. Laurens. I am Professor Reyes (Idk I tried to think of something else, but all I thought of was Bmc). We've been waiting for you." The man spoke, his throat scratchy and sickly.

"So have I. Can I see him?" John asked, fidgeting with his watch.

Mr. Reyes looked to the female scientist, and she nodded approvingly, a small hopeful smile on her face.

"Of course. He's calmed down now, so yes."

The two scientists led him to an area full of glass enclosures. Most of them were empty, but some held animals. Most of these creatures being wolves, tigers, and foxes.

The trio stopped at a huge glass cage, bigger than John and Alex's entire house.

John noticed how there were many guards watching the cage. He realized that each of them held a gun and a strange metal stick he'd never seen before.

"We keep this cage under protection from the public, as well as our own business. Each guard is equipped with a gun, and a 'Shocker' which is a giant metal pole that gives an electric shock to anyone who touches the end." Mr. Reyes spoke clearly, pride growing in his voice.

John nodded slowly, and watched as the scientists yelled at a few of the guards, causing them to run off.

After a few moments, the guards came back with a goat on a leash, and opened the door to the enclosure.

John was pushed into a small room, much like a studio. The room was big enough to fit him, Mr. Reyes, the other scientist, and two guards inside.

The studio-like room overlooked the enclosure. The entire one side covered in glass.

He watched as the guards tied the goat to a pole, before running out of the enclosure.

Minutes went by, and the goat continued to bleat, slowly growing annoyed that it was stuck inside a giant enclosure with nowhere to go.

Suddenly, a large roar was heard from the cage, and John covered his ears, closing his eyes.

When he opened them, he saw the goat, once alive, being chewed on by a strange animal that John wished he didn't see.

The creature ripped off the goat's leg, and swallowed it whole, before ripping into the rest of it's body, crunching loudly.

John watched with horror as the animal finished the goat, wiping it's mouth onto it's arm.

The creature was obviously a lion, but not like one that John would expect. It had massive, hand-like paws, and it's claws were huge and sharp. It walked on two legs at times, but mostly walked normally: on four feet. Part of it's mane was pulled into a small ponytail, and it had fading scars tracing its wrists.

There was something else, the monster's eyes weren't entirely full of rage. The eyes were a dark shade of brown, and they softened when it saw John. He realized it now; the animal staring at him was not just some hybrid monster that the scientists had made. That creature was Alex.

"You mean to tell me, that this is my Alex?"

Mr. Reyes looked taken aback, but sighed, putting a hand on John's shoulder.

"I'm afraid so. Since Alex volunteered to be a test subject for the new serum we created, he took it and transformed into...this." Reyes motioned to the lion that John now knew was Alex.

"But why did he turn into this?" John asked, confused on how the serum would be safe for Alex to drink.

"It was supposed to make people have the health and strength of whichever animal they related to the most. Alex was supposed to have the strength and health of a lion, since he seem related to it in some way." Mr Reyes answered, still watching Alex out of the corner of his eye.

John watched as Alex roamed the enclosure. He sighed, hanging his head.

One day, I promise. You'll be mine again.
