I tossed and turned on my bed, feeling restless as something felt odd. I sat up and checked the time on my phone.

3 am—Witch's hour.

I walked from my room and to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Suddenly a light came on outside, and I grew curious. I stepped out from the entrance and in the dark. I always become nervous when I go in the dark alone. I followed the light and came across the phone on the ground. The phone turned on, and there were missing calls on the phone. There were all unknown calls. I picked it up cautiously and pressed the home button. The phone only had essential apps, but I don't see any apps that had been installed by anyone.

Guess I'll keep it.

I stuffed the phone in my pocket. I'll look more into it when I'm wide awake. I went back to my house and into my room. I crashed onto my bed, and I fell into a deep slumber.

Time skip to Sunday night

Ruth texted me again. He wished to talk to me soon at school. I felt terrible for leaving him alone, so I texted him that I'd talk to him. We set up the meeting place then I texted Dave how I couldn't meet up with him and talk to him during lunch. Dave responded how he was okay with it, and we called it a night. I turned off my phone and placed my phone on the table next to my bed. I heard a sound for the text message, and I reached for my phone again. I didn't see any notifications, and I grew confused. I heard another noise and got even more concerned. I then remembered that I had the smartphone that I picked up a couple of nights ago. I hopped off my bed and headed over to the cabinet. I pulled the drawer, and I saw the smartphone lighting up. I pulled it out and unlocked the phone to see two new messages.

You got the phone. Where are you?

I checked the sender's name, but it just said a random number. I decided not to respond, and I thought that there was a creep on the loose. I received another message.

Answer me.

I am not going to answer this person.

Answer me.

Creep. I won't answer him.

If you don't answer me, I'll find you.

Now, this is just going too far.

Unfazed, I blocked the number and turned the smartphone entirely off. I put it away and went to bed. I felt very uneasy about this whole thing.

The next day

Ruth's POV
I went into one of the classrooms and waited for Y/N. I hadn't seen her in a long time. I wanted to know what she has been doing for the past previous days. I took my phone and earbuds out, and then I chose the song. I looked up and saw Y/N coming in through the door. She found me and sat down in front of me.

Does she always have bags under her eyes?

It's hard to tell, but I'm assuming that she stayed up late to do her work. She looked fidgety too. She always looked over her shoulder and tapped her finger on her arm. "Hey, is there something wrong?" She looked at me and answered, "Just one small thing. Do you remember Dave?" "Yeah. I talked to him a few times. What about him?"

She frowned. "Check outside and tell me if you see Dave." I grew curious about her request, but I complied. I stood up from my chair and opened the door. I scanned for Dave, and I saw him standing across from me, leaning against the building wall. He was looking on his phone then he looked up. We made eye contact, and I waved at him. He glared at me. I was so confused, and I went back inside. I told Y/N that I saw Dave standing across from our building. "Shit. He has been following me around." She tugged her coat closer to hide.

"Do you want me to go tell him to stop?" I was already preparing myself to fight him if things went wrong. "I have a better idea." She discussed her idea with me. When I heard it, I was disappointed. "I want to walk with you. It's been a while since we walked together to class." I pouted. "I'm sorry, Ruth, but I really want him to stop, and hopefully I'll lose him." I opened my mouth to say something when the bell rang, signaling the end of lunch. "Fine." I picked up my backpack and opened the door. I looked back to see Y/N, standing and shouting, "Good luck!" I closed the door behind me and walked over to Dave. I took a deep breath.
I hope this idea works.

I walked over to Dave and greeted him with a smile. "Hey, Dave! It's been a while!" He looked at me with a sneer. "Where's Y/N?" "Oh, she is putting her stuff away. Don't worry about it. Let's just catch up." "I want to wait until she comes out."

Stubborn.

I put my arm over him and turned him around. I hoped that this gave Y/N enough time to move. "What are you doing?!" Dave asked. "I want to let you in on a little secret." "What secret? I don't care about your secrets!" "It's about Y/N." "Oh. Then tell me." "First, tell me what she has told you, so I won't repeat what she has already said." "Fine." While Dave was busy talking about what Y/N has told him, I quickly glanced over just to see Y/N sneaking out quietly. She saw me looking at her and mouthed the words, "Thank you!" I turned back to focus on Dave talking while I saw Y/N hurrying along to her next class. "That's all she has told me. What's her secret?" I snapped out from my thoughts and turned to look at Dave. He shook my arm off him and crossed his arms. He straightened his back and stared into my eyes.

"I forgot what her secret is. I'll go ahead and ask her." I answered him, but I'm sure that this is not the right answer. He breathed in deeply and glared at me again. "Let me know when you want to talk, but don't waste my time again." He growled at me. He then walked away, and I sighed. I received a text from Y/N.

Thank you :)

I smiled, knowing that she had arrived safely in her class. I shot her a text back.

You're welcome, but be careful. Dave is upset.

I will. Thanks again.

The bell rang.

Fuck! I'm late for class.

I sprinted across campus to reach my class.
