01 - cuffed

"wow so it is true..." sooyoung said after she entered the dark room.

she had heard the rumors but she didn't quite believe them until this moment. i mean, come on, bae joohyun, THE best guardian demon ever, accidentally exposed her true self to a mortal? this must be a joke.

yet, looking at her friend, she immediately saw the way her wings had been removed, as they are now almost completely transparent. a punishment like that its almost a curse. it takes quite a lot of redemption points by the mortal you're guarding to get forgiven out of that. 

"c'mon tell me, how did this even happen?" she insisted, trying to hold eye contact with the other girl. 

"just- it doesn't matter now. the thing is, that i cant go to the mortal realm anymore as i am banned from it." she can go as a spirit as boring as that is, just watching over her human, yes. but to take the human form for her own pleasure its strictly banned when your in the restriction zone as joohyun is at the moment.

"aww..... that sucks. well if you excuse me i have some uh important things to do so..." its not like sooyoung doesn't care about her friend but she can recognise the look on joohyuns face and its one thats ready to explode and mind you, she doesn't want to be around when that happens.

"you're gonna go as joy and mess up those two again aren't you?" joohyun asked absentmindedly.

"no.." joohyun raised one eyebrow as sooyoung was biting her lip. "maybe?" the other girl didn't reply but she was NOT buying that. sooyoung was pacing the room slowly till she stopped and looked at the elder with a defeated face. "fiNE. yes" 

joohyun chuckled a little. sooyoung loves shipping people and will get out of her way to make them a couple. she had a little thing for those two boys who were obviously crushing on each other and she been pushing them forward ever since she noticed. giving them confidence was indeed her best givable trait.

sooyoung was for the moment a middle rank demon, and she cant guard anyone till she completes small tasks for different people. 

joohyun though was a top rank demon. she has been given already her 3rd human to look over. but judging by her punishment she's sure that two of them will be assigned to other demons for the time till she can be forgiven. meanwhile, she'll have to take care of her first mortal ever given guidance for, she thinks. easy job, that mortal is an angel, always choosing the right choices. 

well, like an angel, of course. angels or angelic beings are really rare these days and though they used to live in a different place, now they live among demons. usually in media demons or devils are seen as these incredibly evil beings that will make their mortal do awful choices and literally make people go nuts. 

its totally not like that. the main difference between these two deities is that when angels chose to be left, thousand years go, in their innocent, naive, and blind perspective about the world, demons chose to see the truth about what it was, without having white lies cover their eyes. 

which is why though the two immortals live in peace, its widely known that demons have a clearer eyesight judgement than angels. 

but now, as it has been mentioned, angels are quite rare and thus, most demons are offered to be placed as guardians of the humans.

joohyun has quite a time being a demon herself and even if she wasn't happy at first when she found out, she's pretty contented with the life she has here. most demons and angels are nice, and the place is cool enough to be contented with. she still misses her family and friends but oh well, it was her own fault for getting into that  situation.

coming into the present again, sooyoung was a little anxious to leave and do her tasks, and joohyun could easily understand why, so she gave her an approving smile. it is really fun to take the human form and be reminded of what it used to be, to be alive and feel the thrill of it everyday. 

after being alone again in her room, she was reminded again of in what type of situation she has gotten herself this time. she shouldn't have done it. she knows it was wrong, for both of them yet she was acting completely selfish.

letting out a sigh she touched her wings. if she squinted her eyes she could almost believe that she had no wings at all for except those weird cuffs around them that would just kinda float in the air. the wings tho were usually quite a dark color but because she was punished they were transparent : a reminder to her and to everyone of the mistake she did.

though no one actually knew exactly what  the so mentioned mistake really was. that made her feel a little better. that last thing she wanted was people's fake ass sympathy, throwing 'poor thing' and 'i feel so bad about her' every two seconds.

she decided she had quite a day and had enough of that annoying type of silence, the one that scratches every negative idea in your brain and kills you with it if you thing for to long. it was getting late, joohyun went to sleep in her bed but of course she couldn't.

 i mean its not like even though her eyes are practically screaming for sleep, her mind is just like "hey, wanna think again about that extremely embarrassing  encounter with that boy seven years ago? of course you want. HAHAHAHAHAHA YOU WERE SO STUPID HE PROBABLY THINKS IT TO THIS DAY AND IS TELLING HIS FRIENDS ABOUT IT AS A WAY TO REMOVE AKWARDNESS." "wait but that means that thats a comforting moment for him and if it helps him get over any awkward feelings then-" "PLEASE, he is probably facepalming so hard everytime he thinks about it, like gosh, if he was a comedian that would be his most famous part" "but he would get famous and-"

joohyun turned around and groaned. she checked the time in her phone, it was almost 4am. she was never going to get sleep like this. her body tensed for a moment, then grimaced irritatedly while looking at the window. she was so going to regret this later, but oh well, that was a problem for future joohyun.

she didn't do this often. actually she never did this. she tried as hard as she could to remove every habit she was self-aware of when she became a demon. new life, new her. more like a new 'perfect' version of her but whatever..

she walked to the balcony and with a swift move removed the cuffs from her wings and onto her wrists.

...please, isn't it obvious she has tried this trick already too many times? yet, it was a classic. moreover, no one seemed to notice it. "they were hurting so i moved them a little more on the left/right" she would say and they would shrug away. idiots.

she flied as low and fast as possible, though careful so her flap of wings wouldn't create too much noise. when she touched ground, she recuffed her wings again and ran away in a small path that not many seemed to notice around there. 

the sun wasn't yet rising but it would soon and joohyun wanted to be there to see it. such a insignificant thing here, yet so many humans would agree that sunrises are peak magic. theres something so alive about them that she couldn't bear missing it. not today. 

it was still a little bit dark. she tripped twice but didn't stop running.

she stopped running when she found her place. frankly speaking she had no idea that you could see such a view from down there but as her eyes always ended up checking it out from the window she believed there was no way you wouldn't feel calmer there.

she sat down in a soft part with green short cut grass, and some little flowers who haven't bloomed yet around her.

at such silence she could here could hear her own shallow breath, and it wasn't helping her relax. she checked the time again, it was around 5 am. she couldn't stay more than 10 minutes here or she would get caught. she was already regretting this idea. if she just forced her eyes to stay close maybe....

the first ray of light caught her eyes when it touched her leg and she gasped lightly. immediately  she looks up and sees the most beautiful colors mixing up with the dark shades of the sky, all melting together while the sun is getting up in his gold chariot.

all her worries melted away too, just like that. the sunrise was her mortal remembrance and she would never forget it. 

and just like that, she fell alseep.
