Episode 8: The Criminal

SCENE ONE. SAMS HOUSE.

SAM IS WALKING AROUND HIS HOUSE TALKING ON THE PHONE, ABOUT TO WALK OUT THE DOOR.

SAM (as he grabs his keys of the counter): Hey, Mercedes. So... uh, we haven't talked since you kissed me. You kinda just walked away and are just now answering my calls.

SAM WALKS OUT THE DOOR AND INTO HIS CAR.

MERCEDES: I've been busy recording the album. Today's my day off.

SAM: What's going on between us now?

MERCEDES: Are you free today after school?

SAM: Yeah, why? 

MERCEDES: Lima Bean. 4:00.

SAM (smiling): Okay... I guess I'll see you then.

MERCEDES: See you then.

SAM: Bye.

SCENE TWO. CHOIR ROOM.

SAM WALKS INTO THE CHOIR ROOM, SMILING.

SAM: I'm glad the energy has changed in this room since last time we met here. See, life goes on. Although, I think we all know we would have won if it weren't for the Warblers.

THE NEW DIRECTIONS CHEER AND LAUGH.

SAM: Anyways, let's welcome back Olivia!

EVERYONE CLAPS, EXCEPT FOR TRACY AND LUCAS. 

SAM: In other news, today is the last day of freshman year for a lot of you. As well as some of you, this is the last time we'll see you. Others will be starting a new chapter of their life as seniors. No matter what path you're headed, I want us to make this rehearsal memorable.  

OLIVIA: Um, Mr. Evans, may I speak?

SAM: Go ahead.

SHE WALKS TO THE FRONT OF THE CLASSROOM.

OLIVIA: I know that some of you are not happy to see me again, which is completely understandable. Lucas, I know I have told you this as much as I possibly can, but I'm SO sorry. I've been a bitch to... most of you.

TRACY: ...All of us.

OLIVIA: I have taken this week to self reflect on what I have done to others and how I need to grow up. As much as you guys aren't going to believe me, I think I'm a changed person.

TRACY (whispering to LIAM): She thinks. Wow.

OLIVIA: I really would hate to admit it, but you guys are my best friends. My actions towards you are out of jealousy and spite. I realize that everyone in this glee club is so special and talented in their own ways. It's taught me that I can be myself, and embrace who I am. Which is why I want to tell you all that I...(pause) am lesbian. I did that awful thing to Lucas because I didn't want anyone to get an idea. I thought taking my pain and making someone else have it would fix all of my problems. But it didn't. In fact, it made everything worse. Like, ten times worse. But it did make me change as a person. I'm not going to promise that I'm never going to be a bitch again because let's be real, I would be lying. Anyway, I guess that's it.

THE NEW DIRECTIONS GO UP TO OLIVIA TO HUG HER.

LUCAS: You're still the same person to us. Nothing changed. I feel like I can accept your apology now because as much hell as it put me through, lets be honest here, it wasn't much of a shock to anyone. 

OLIVIA and LUCAS laugh.

SAM: I definitely think this meeting is already something we'll remember forever. 

SCENE THREE. THE CAFETERIA.

THE NEW DIRECTIONS ARE SITTING AT THEIR TABLE IN THE CAFETERIA. 

AVA: We've all become so close, i'm honestly nervous to meet the new kids next year.

LUCAS: I'm not. It can't just be us forever. Besides, there's only four seniors. 

AVA: I know. I just don't like change.

TRACY: It's gonna be fine, Mr. Evans won't pick people that he thinks won't be a good fit.

OLIVIA: We would have five seniors if I didn't run off one of them...

LIAM: Trust us, we didn't forget that.

TRACY: I wonder what happened to that guy.

LIAM: He moved schools. Remember?

TRACY: Oh..

OLIVIA: I don't remember that. 

LIAM: Of course you don't.

OLIVIA (suddenly angry): I-

LUCAS: Okay! Anyways, I heard this kid named Brenn is going to audition.  

TRACY: Word doesn't get around that fast... someone might be obsessed.

LUCAS: Uh, no...

SCENE FOUR. LIMA BEAN.

SAM IS SITTING AT A TABLE WAITING FOR MERCEDES. MERCEDES WALKS IN AND HE IMMEDIATELY LIGHTS UP.

SAM: Hey.

MERCEDES: Hey, sorry I'm late. 

SAM: It's all good. I just got here anyways. So, what's up?

MERCEDES: So, I asked you to come here because I think it would be weird to ask you over the phone. I know we haven't dated in years, but I realize that you are my soulmate. I don't want my career or ambition to get in the way of it. Being in a relationship with anyone else seems wrong. I was the one to end our relationship both times because I didn't want to go through the pain of feeling like you didn't love me anymore. I honestly think I would die. So, Sam Evans, would you maybe want to do this again?

SAM: Of course. Yeah. How could I say no?

MERCEDES: Cool. So, what now?

SAM: Let's get out of here. You deserve way better than Lima Bean. You can pick where you want to go.

MERCEDES: Okay, then. 

THEY STAND UP AND SAM TAKES MERCEDES HAND AND THEY HAPPILY WALK OUT THE DOOR.

SCENE FIVE. KLAINES HOUSE.

BLAINE is sitting on his couch watching TV in complete disbelief. 

BLAINE: Kurt! Get down here!

KURT is shown running down the steps.

KURT: What's wrong? Are you okay?

BLAINE: Look at this.

BLAINE un-pauses the TV and KURT sits down.

NEWS REPORTER: Will Schuester, the former principal of Mckinley High and former coach of the the five-time nationals winner glee club, the New Directions was arrested today. Victims of sexual assault by Schuester have come forward saying he allegedly inappropriately touched them when they were minors. One of them being Matt Rutherford who was in his glee club and moved schools because he was 'terrified for his safety.' More information to come soon.
