Hanson City, 1985.
It had been two days since the two separate ghastly cases had been reported; two women had been horribly murdered and chopped to pieces. Fear had stricken the whole town, talk of the town was that there was a serial killer in the city. I mean, these claims wouldn't be considered 'far fetched' as serial killings were getting really popular in the United States.
This was a horrible time for the best detective in town, Detective Conan Smith, to be retiring but after serving the city for over forty years, everyone would agree that it was a well-deserved retirement.
Detective Conan Smith decided to throw a party in the small town, inviting family and friends.
The plans went smoothly and the affair was in order.
The detective made sure everyone was comfortable, at least to get their minds of the 'serial killer' talk.
He didn't have a really big home, but he made sure everyone that came could fit in.
"So you're finally leaving us eh? Smith." Detective Murphy smiled.
"I guess, I am." Detective Conan replied as he sipped his champagne.
"Well, I hope your daughter can carry on the good work you've been doing here." Detective Murphy walked over to the settee.
Detective Conan followed. "Well, she is a smart girl."
"Indeed like her dad." Detective Murphy glimmered. He rendered a heavy sigh before he continued. "You know she has been working on the two killings right?"
"Killings? The serial killer case?" Detective Conan sat up.
"Yeah, that one. For some reason she picked that case, at first, I didn't want her to have it, but she insisted, so I gave it to her." Detective Murphy answered with raised eyebrows. "And the 'serial killer' bullshit is inconclusive man."
"Murphy, I've been a detective in this town for years and I've never come across a case this ghastly." Detective Conan shook his head.
"Bullshit Smith, bullshit." Detective Murphy seemed irritated. "Besides, your daughter isn't even convinced that they are serial killings."
"Hmm, I see. So that's why you put her on the case huh? So she can prove you right?" Detective Conan smiled.
"All I'm saying is, just keep an open mind. You never know."Detective Conan's wife walked over to them.
"Hey, Mr Murphy." She waved, she seemed a little drunk.
"Hey, Chloe." Detective Murphy waved back.
"So Conan, are you going to dance with me or what?"
"Baby, as you can see.."
"Come on." She pulled him up. "This is supposed to be a celebration, your celebration and you're not even in the party." She whispered in his ears.
"Okay, okay. Let's.." The loud shriek cut him short. "What's that?" He rushed over.
Turns out the serial killer was in his house, there was another murder and this time it was his daughter, Detective Liz Smith.
