I had gotten hour detention at school for slapping Madelyn Sanders in the cafeteria. Madelyn was the typical high school queen bee, annoying as heck but quite popular. With her long red hair, grey eyes, her little nose and full upper lip, she was beautiful. She was also smart, but her obnoxious behavior made it difficult to focus on any other thing.

I was the only goth girl in my school, so Madelyn saw me as easy prey. Most times I just ignored her, but other times I couldn't just deal with her stupidity, today had been one of such days.

I had been walking to my usual table with Lucas, my best friend, after getting our food from the line. I had seen her stand up from her seat where she sat with her stupid posse of friends, with a can of soda in her right hand and sashay towards us. I'd rolled my eyes and continued walking planning on ignoring her completely. She walked directly in front of me, and fake tripped, pouring her soda down the front of my clothes.

"Oops."

She'd said with a fake gasp, covering her mouth with her left hand. She had a smug smile on her face, and I had just stared at her.

"Holy hell."

Lucas said from beside me as he'd stared at the both of us, it would have been comical if I did not have soda seeping into my bra.

The whole cafeteria had quieted down as they stared at us. I opened my mouth, closed it, opened it again and closed it, blinking repeatedly. Lucas had tried to step forward to her, but I'd grabbed his arm to stop him.

"Fuck it."

I'd muttered under my breath before I'd slapped her across her face. The cafeteria had quieted down even further, and you could hear a pin drop. I'd heard a lot of gasps from other students.

Madelyn had just stood there in complete shock; I'd proceeded to turn over my tray of food on her head before I'd turned to walk out of the cafeteria. That's when I'd seen Mr Moore, the cafeteria monitor and music teacher.

As I walked home now, I smiled as I remembered the look on Madelyn's face. Detention hadn't been so bad; I'd tried to study for my Spanish test that was in two days.

I kicked a stone on the road with my steel-toed heels. The roads where practically empty, everyone would be at the beach on the east side of our town already or indoors with the AC on full blast, the weather was just too damned hot.

That's when I began to hear the voices, I looked around, but I couldn't find anyone. The voices got louder and faded at quick intervals, and I couldn't make out what they were saying. I started to speed walk until I broke into a light jog, but the voices seemed to be following me.

The voices became clear all of a sudden, and I could make out what they were saying, it was coming from two men who I guessed was in their late twenties or early thirties.

"Slow down, Jake, she is going to see us."

The first voice pleaded with a little whine to his voice.

"Shut up, man. It's your loud ass voice that will give us away."

The second voice sounded a bit irritated. I got frightened as I thought they were talking about me, and I looked around sharply as I jogged, trying to find men hiding and ready to jump at me, but I couldn't find anyone.

"You probably should not be so rude considering that we are on a mission right now."

The first voice spoke up again. He sounded so whiny this time it would be impossible to miss it.

"I said, shut up."

The second man who I was assuming was the Jake said and sighed dramatically as if he was rolling his eyes, but he kept quiet after that. I started to hear footsteps on what sounded like sand, and I looked around me. I broke into a full sprint, and I knew I was close to my house.
