"Get up you useless winged lizard!" A voice snarled, a flash of pain following. Akulet opened his eyes and trembled, fear threatening to overwhelm him. His father stood above him, purple-ish blood dripping off his talons. Akulet side had been slashed, and the purple blood dripped off of his scales. He was only a year old yet experienced more pain than your average warrior.

"Clean out the nests before I beat you," his father growled, danger glimmering in his eyes. Akulet shook, and limped away, his body low to the ground. Before he got far, his father grabbed his ear and whipped him around, his snout inches from Akulet. "You answer me when I talk to you!" He yelled, and smashed Akulet's head into the ground.

Sharp pain stabbed into Akulet's skull, and he whimpered. "S-sorry Father.. I'll c-clean the nests right away.. Sir," he whispered, looking at his talons.

His father released him, and stalked away to go yell at someone else. Akulet sighed, rubbing his head, and crept along, cleaning out the nests. He found new moss and ferns and replaced them, taking away the dirty and dead ones.

It had been like this for a while.. But there was a time when it was different..

..Akulet felt the need to get out. It was a desperate feeling. There was a quick fluttering in his chest as he moved around. He tapped his claws on the strange wall, pushing. It snapped. Akulet could hear some murmurs from outside of his shell.

He pushed again, and the "wall" gave way beneath his talons. A small gasp was heard. Akulet looked up at the larger dragons. One had the coloring like the inside of a shell, pink and blue and grey.

The other was the color of water beneath ice. His wings were a darker blue, while his body ranged from light blue to snow-white. His horns were blue as well.

"He's beautiful, isn't he..?" The shell colored one flashed her scales, picking the small dragonet up.

The shell colored dragon, who he felt was his mother, had a happier arua, but underneath it lay bitterness and secrets.

The other had a colder arua. He had done terrible things. and he would do more. It scared the small dragonet. He is father, he though, more in pictures than words.

The male dragon studied the hatchling, his white scales and perfectly sculpted snout, his dark pinkish blue eyes, the purple and blue luminescent scales. His tiny, webbed talons. His blue-to-purple wings that held an unusual pattern.

"I hardly see an ounce of me in him, besides the white." he flashed back, leaving the mother and her newly hatched son..

Akulet shook his head slightly, tensing up as a dark red dragon passed by. They kicked sand into his eyes, and he yelped softly, darting over to the stream.

..It was warm. The young dragon lay near a vent in the floor. He was a week old. His parents had put him to bed hours ago, leaving him in the warm water.

Then it was cold. He opened his eyes and peeked around, not even realizing he wasn't in his room anymore. All he could see was swirling water, luminescent fish, and darkness.

When he next awoke, it was dawn, and he was in land. The dragon that carried him set him down in a clearing, calling out to an unseen dragon.

She had a fearful arua, the dizzying waves confusing the small dragon.

Then the clearing began to crawl with dragons, all scarred and evil-looking.

This dragon that was bigger than the rest, and had less scars padded right up to the hatchling.

His arua was one that commanded power. And respect. If that respect wasn't shown, it was clear he would cause pain. He was dangerous.

The Dragonet whimpered slightly, and backed up.

The 'leader' suddenly lashed out at the little one, scratching his neck. He roared something to the terrified female and leapt at her, biting and slashing.

The hatchling began to feel woozy, the purple blood that spilled out of his neck was causing an extreme stabbing pain to overwhelm him..

Akulet shuddered slightly, and took a drink of water. His eyes and side stung. He sat there, trembling for a moment before a stick snapped.

His ears shot up and his eyes narrowed.

"What are you doing out here?" a voice growled behind him.

Akulet jumped, spinning around to see his father behind him. He was slapped suddenly, the sudden pain causing him to cry out. "Oh? You know better than to make a sound!" His father yelled, kicking him in the gut.

Akulet flew into a tree, a crack sounding out. He coughed up some blood as the wound on his side reopened. "You unless monster," his father whispered, wrapping his claws around Akulet's throat.

"No one will ever love you.." He said, squeezing slightly. He then picked Akulet up by his neck and pinned him against the tree, continuing to choke him while muttering hurtful things.

" FatHEr.. P-PleAse! L..et Go! I cant bre.. " Akulet tried to yell despite the claws closing rapidly around his throat.

His father moved him away from the tree. "SHUT-" he slammed Akulet against the tree, "UP!" He roared. Just as Akulet's sight began to grow dark, his father dropped him.

"You worthless freak," he muttered stepping on Akulet's neck as he walked away.
