Sophie and the others spent hours explaining everything. Their abilities, their world, their conflicts. It took ages and ages, once one subject was covered there always seemed to be another.
"So, you can read minds, command water, inflict emotions, enhance others ability's, teleport, command fire, create force fields, turn invisible, speak any language, and... is that all?" Carina listed.
Sophie nodded "And they're called a Telepath, Hydrokinetic, Inflictor, Enhancer, Teleporter, Pyrokinetic, Psionpath, Vanisher, and a Polyglot." She paused "And yes, that's all we can do."
Matilda was listening intently from the next cot over. No one knew if she was replaying all of it to Charlie, but for Alex's sake they hoped not. For the past two days the Unwanteds and the girls had been swapping stories about their worlds, and learning about the other. Thinking about it all made Sophie's head explode. She remembered the first time she had met Fitz, really met him, without running away.

She shook her head. Was she was really thinking of humans as something other?
But how else could she explain where she was?
She tried to wrap her mind around the idea, tried to force it to make sense. "So," she said, cringing over her ridiculous next question. "This is... magic?"
Fits laughed —a full body laugh, like it was the funniest thing he's ever heard.
She glared at him. It couldn't be that funny.
"No," he said when he'd regained control. "Magic is a stupid idea humans came up with to try to explain things they couldn't understand."

But it was real. It really, truly was. And she could learn it. Eventually. That night as Sophie curled up in her huge bed, in her huge room that reminded her a little too much of Havenfield, she wondered what was happening to the boys. Her boys. What they were going through and what was happening to them. She could only guess, and for her, guessing wasn't nearly enough.

...

Alex looked over the edge of the boat at Artimé, exited to get home and terrified of the upcoming attack. He was glad his brother was coming back with him though. His immortal brother. He shook his head, trying to straighten out his jumbled up thoughts. It seemed impossible, yet it mad so much sense. Like a lot of things in his life.

His thoughts were interrupted when the ship pulled into the small lagoon with a dock for the Claire. Charlie jumped out almost immediately, looking a little green and clutching his stomach. Aaron climbed out soon after, and Alex quickly cast the anchor spell before following. It was mid-afternoon, and as Aaron headed upstairs to his room, Alex went straight to the hospital ward, where he saw the escapee from Warbler talking to whom he guessed was her brother.

When everyone saw him they were thrilled he was back, but then they returned to what they had been doing.
Alex walked over to one of the nurses and quietly asked where the other girls were.

"They healed quickly, so we gave them rooms." Carina answered quietly. "You wouldn't believe what they can do."

Alex smiled "Can they turn back time or something? Maybe they can create other worlds." He joked.
Carina's face stayed solemn "For all I know, they very well may be able to."

...

When Lisa called out to Linh that she was required to meet someone on the lawn by the gate, she nearly peed herself. Talking blackboards? Are you kidding? Then, when the talking blackboard told her to take the magic tube to the hallway, she freaked out and ran across the hall to Sophie's room. She burst through the door and saw Sophie sitting on a chair, looking exactly as Linh pictured herself at that moment.
"We're totally teleporting." She stated.
Linh nodded her head quickly, and then Biana, Marella, and Maruca came in and said the exact same thing.
Sophie asked her blackboard for a picture of the lawn near the gate, and they went out into the hallway. Without a second thought, they all charged forward. The onlookers thought they were crazy, until there was a clap of thunder, and the girls disappeared into thin air. They thought they were hallucinating, until there was another clap of thunder and the girls tumbled out, right in front of the gate.

To say Alex was shocked to see these girls tumbling out of nowhere would be an understatement. He felt like that clap of thunder had actually been his head exploding. And these were such beautiful girls! Besides Sky, he didn't think anyone could look like that. The girls untangled themselves and stood up, starting to walk towards him. One of the girls kept blinking in and out of sight as they moved.

"Hello. You must be Alex. We've heard a lot about you and your people lately. I'm Sophie, and this is Marella, Biana, Maruca, and Linh." She pointed to each of them in turn.

"What was that?!" He blurted out. He couldn't help it.

"Teleporting." The one called Marella replied.

His eyes grew wide. Then they narrowed. "Why should I believe you?"

The girls looked at each other. Sophie nodded, and suddenly fire flickered to life in Marbella's palm. It grew and spread onto the grass. The grass caught fire, and it started spreading. Then water shot out of Linh's palm and put the fire out. Alex abruptly noticed that his eyesight had gone blurry. That was when he realized that there was a force field around him. It flickered away a second later. In that same second Biana, the girl who seemed to disappear between steps disappeared completely, appearing again fifteen feet away. Maruca pointed at Sophie, and a force field appeared around her. When the field flickered away, Sophie came over and asked "Now do you believe us?"
Alex just stared for a moment "What can you do?"
Sophie looked around, then floated off the ground. She floated up higher and higher, and just when Alex thought she was never gonna stop, she fell. She didn't scream, though Alex felt like screaming. She was seconds away from hitting the ground when thunder clapped again, and she disappeared, only to reappear a minute later with food from the kitchen.
"Teleport," she said with her mouth full ", I can also read minds, inflict emotions, enhance others abilities, and speak any language. Oh, and we can all do stuff like this too." She pointed to a rock about the size of a fist, and seconds later it exploded into a million pieces.
As Alex watched them display more skills, all he could think about was the war coming up, and how much help these girls could give. Before he could stop himself, he blurted out "Will you guys help us with the war?"
