"Sadie! Sadie where'd you go?" I shout. My twelve-year-old self knows something is up.

"Sadie! Fine, you win! I've been looking for you for over twenty minutes, you can come out now!"

I call and call but all my shouting is left with is silence. Sadie knows the protocol. She won't be in any harm. At least, that's what I'm telling myself. I told my parents I would look after her, that we'd be safe. We hadn't meant to wander past the woods, but somehow, we had, and now Sadie is lost and I probably wont ever see her again if she doesn't come back, and mom is gonna kill me and Sadie's parents are gonna be so mad. And so sad, too.

"Sadie!" I call out, one last time, gripping tightly on that one sliver of hope I have magically conjured.

I am met with the same silence.
