Shehnaaz woke up to the sight of mom leaning against the door , smiling down at her.
Jumping off the bed , she ran to her mom with a huge grin on my face and enveloped her mom into her arms . " I missed you!" Shehnaaz said as she squeezed her frail body.
" How have you been ?" Her mother asked, accessing her face.
" Just fine!" Shehnaaz said
Her mother looked around the room and walked up to the closed window. " Baaz said you went down to the lake. Do you like it here ?" Her mother asked.
" Ofcourse, " shehnaaz lied, " It's a great place. Even better than Toronto".
Shehnaaz didn't had the courage to tell her mother the truth. There was something here that would make shehnaaz consider to stay. It was just the beginning of Summer, but she already missed her friends- bagga specially , her dad and her school.
Remembering her dad was a touchy topic. Shehnaaz had not called her dad ever since the day they left the house. Neither did he try to contact them after that.
But telling mom about it would only make her sad and that was the last thing shehnaaz wanted to do.
So shehnaaz pulled her chin up and grinned. "Thank you for the room. I'll empty my boxes and then arrange my shelf and then go on a stroll , look around, make friends, I guess ."
Her mother grinned which squinted her eyes . " Yes , yes. Do whatever you want. But first clean up and come down. Breakfast is ready. I'm going out for buying some groceries." Her face seemed tired and wrinkly as if she grew a lot older in just a month. A cheating husband and a heartbreaking divorce is not good for health.
" Okay !" Shehnaaz replied as she walked out. Opening her bags , she got ready for a long hot shower.
Last night , well - the whole day actually was quite... eventful shehnaaz thought.
New places disturbed her sleeping patterns and last night alarmed her. She had a hard time going back to sleep. Her heart rates were iver clouds and she didn't sleep properly until the alarm went off.
Regardless of the new houses around, this place did have an eerie vibe. Shehnaaz's room didn't feel as isolated as it was as she felt a sharp stare on her neck at all times. She had a constant sensation of being watched.
The woods in the backyard were quite old , the lake quite too peaceful. Apart frin that weird stranger, shehnaaz didn't see anyone around. It felt as if she was far away on a stranded island. This might and might not have something to do with her mental state she thought.
All she needed was some time in the bathtub.
After shehnaaz dried her hair and changed into fresh , crisp top and a pair of shorts, she was ready to offically begin her summer.
Have a NEW START like her mother forcefully threw that phrase around whenever shehnaaz tried to argue about moving across.
Shehnaaz hopped down the stairs, humming a tune as she walked towards the kitchen.
Baaz sat at the dining table , with his nose in newspaper- one if many habits that reminded shehnaaz if her dad.
" Morning !" Shehnaaz tried to cheer up
Baaz looked up with a dead stare and returned his attention to boring news. Looks like shehnaaz wasn't the only one who didn't get enough sleep.
Shehnaaz sipped from her cup of tea and inspected the kitchen and the window behind baaz . It would take some time before shehnaaz gets use to it.
