Chapter eight; Tipsy and talking [part I]

''A party? When?'' Robyn called from the bathroom, the doors being creaked open a bit, so she could be heard.

Jasmine was lying on her bed, staring at the yellow canopy above her breathlessly. Not to blame her, she did run from a classroom to the barrels up and down all stairs, then to the very back of the girl's dormitories and landed on her bed.

''Today, after the game in the Gryffindor common room. Black actually invited you, I'm just the messenger.'' Jasmine played with a strand of her light brown hair.

While hearing the water running in the shower the curtain suddenly rustled. ''Siri invited me!?''

Jasmine cringed from the screech her best friend let out, while apparently having a shower. She waited a moment and listened to the sounds from the bathroom from which she collected that Robyn resumed to showering and waited for Jasmine to speak.

''Yeah, apparently he lost his balls somewhere and couldn't ask you himself.''

Another sound of the rustle of the shower curtain escaped the bathroom before Robyn's singing continued. It produced a few quiet chuckles from Jasmine, hearing her friend in a good mood. She didn't know if she would be, learning that the boy she sort-of, kind-of had a thing with didn't have the courage to ask her to the party himself. But Robyn was Robyn and Sirius Black was a whole other story, which Jasmine didn't even want to start to decipher.

''You're going too right?'' Robyn asked once she exited the bathroom plopping down on the bed next to Jasmine.

Their heads were on the same side only Jasmine was lying on her back with her hands clasped behind her head and Robyn was flat on her stomach. The lighter brunette nodded to answer the question while still staring above her.

''Who invited you?''

Jasmine cocked her head to Robyn and shot her a flat look. Robyn shrugged with an innocent look, indicating she didn't mean anything by the question.

''The Marauders did, kind of.'' She trailed off.

Jasmine recalled the afternoon the Marauders approached her and Lily on the grass near the lake. They all spoke over one another but she could distinctly remember Remus butting in, extending an invitation to her as well. It put a smile on her face, even now thinking back on it.

''Do you already know what you are going to do tomorrow at Hogsmeade?''

Jasmine sat up slowly. ''What do you mean?'' She asked her eyebrows creased with confusion. ''There's no trip to Hogsmeade tomorrow, they cancelled it.''

Robyn widened her eyes. ''What? When?''

Jasmine searched with her eyes and came to the conclusion that Robyn was completely clueless. She then glanced at the paper that was scattered at the foot of Robyn's bed.

''We were informed during this week's prefect meeting and I thought Devin told everyone.'' Jasmine's look was somewhere far, thinking back at the meeting.

Apparently she did wrong by trusting Devin, the other sixth-year Hufflepuff prefect to tell everyone the news. She just hoped that Robyn was one of the rare ones that were in the dark, otherwise tomorrow Jasmine would have a lot of explaining to do while on morning patrol. She couldn't bear the thought of so many disappointed faces. When she turned her look back to Robyn, the girl shook her head with a frown.

''But why?'' She asked, getting a weird feeling of the reason that the trip was cancelled.

Jasmine didn't have the heart to answer so she merely motioned to the newspaper lying on the floor. Robyn trailed her pointed hand and her expression fell even more. The front page displayed an article about another killing of some muggle parents. The situation was getting worse so any safety percussions had to be made. The girls had no idea how much time had passed of them just quietly looking at the paper when Sophie entered the dorm, bringing them out of their daydreaming.
