Laughing to himself, Skarr left the twins' old room to enter his master's, yawning while he did so. "Hey, kitten," he greeted, grinning when she smiled shyly in return. "Want to play your game? Asher is helping Dad make sense of our uncle's old office, so he won't be home for a while."

When Melody nodded in agreement, Skarr fought a wider grin and barely kept from licking his lips. She was so damn adorable he wanted to cuddle her for eternity and shivered when he realized he could at least snuggle with his master for a while. When Melody moved towards the bed, the hellhound sprang, sitting and pulling her onto his lap. Once she settled, he turned the television and game system on, grinning when she made a soft, cheerful sound.

It was at least an hour. A blessed hour of holding his beloved master before Skarr sensed Asher outside the house. He was in the doorway within minutes, his eyes scanning the room for threats before they settled on his brother and mate sitting on the bed looking happy and comfortable.

"Zane..." Asher murmured with a furrowed brow, "what's wrong?"

"Wrong?" Skarr asked, feigning surprise while hiding his delight at how deliciously his game was progressing.

"I felt that something was wrong, that you're upset. You still are," Asher murmured, looking unsettled.

Unable to resist, Skarr let his eyes change and smirked sadistically when the older twin stiffened upon seeing his coal ember eyes. "Am I?" Skarr asked teasingly.

"N-No," Asher stuttered, stumbling back into the wall with his eyes never leaving the hellhound's face. The horror in his expression amused Skarr who kissed the top of Melody's head while meeting the older twin's gaze.

"Asher?" Melody asked, and his blood turned to ice knowing if he dared give away her pet what Skarr did next would be worse. He sensed that his brother was alive which meant he could still save him, and that was better than losing him.

"S-Sorry, kitten," Asher stammered with wide eyes, "I-I just remembered that I n-need to help Dad with s-something else. I'll leave you t-two to play your g-game." He left before she could respond, racing through the house trying to find his brother's scent with panic making it hard for him to breathe. He smelled the damn hellhound who now carried Zane's scent, but couldn't find any other trace of his twin no matter how hard he searched.

He returned to the room they shared with Melody and stared at the hellhound who smirked when he saw him in the doorway again. Asher wondered how Melody didn't notice her pet was missing and Skarr made a soft, amused noise. Once their eyes met, he turned his head to look at what appeared to be the coyote pup asleep on a pillow.

'Using an illusion,' Asher thought with a silent growl. Then he spun on his heel to resume searching for his brother albeit he had no idea where to check. Zane's panic was stronger up here, but that made no sense. The hellhound only looked like his brother. He wasn't his twin.

With a huff, Asher stepped towards his old room and realized he Zane's terror grew more intense. Hope bloomed in his chest, and he took a few more steps, retreating when his brother's panic became less pronounced, trying a different direction instead.
