Devided into two parts by the valley, from west to east. Dozens of tracks to Waverly Station (railway station)
The dominant feature of the southern part of the city is the historic core of the Old Town, which is dominanted by the castle with the cathedral of St.Giles. The Royal Mile leads to it, ending at the bottom of the Royal palace Holyroodhouse.
The historical buildings of the university consist of the neo-gothic two- tower New Dormitory on a hill below the castle and the Baroque Old dormitory, university on the south side of Nicolson Park. The eastern horizon of the city is originally lined by a royal hill adapted to Holyrood Park, the highest hill is the mythical seat of King Arthur at an altitude of 250 meters.
The southern part of the city is New Town with Calton Hill with a monument and astronomical observatory. The southern border is formed by the busy Princess Street with a neo- Gothic tower with a statue of the writer Walter Scott. The dominant feature of the New Town is the tower building of Balmoral Hotel at Princess Street Station and the stone bridge Northbridge.
