Petra was walking down the street towards her house. Her face was bright red as she touched her lips.
//Did that really happen?!\\
She ran home and shut her front door. Petra ran into her room and fell in a pile of pillows. She closes her eyes and pictures the moment Levi kissed her. She turns to her side and squeals into a pillow, confused. //Why...?\\ Petra hears the door fly open.
"Petra, I'm home!" Her mom puts down the groceries from her hands.
"Mom!" Petra runs out of her room to hug her.
"How was your day Petra?" She blushes and answers back,
"It was good."
Petra helps her mother put away the groceries. She stays silent until she shrieks when a can falls to the floor.
Her mother smirks and puts her hands on her [Petra] shoulders.
"Petra...what happened?"
"Nothing much..."
"Are you lying to your own mother?"
"I SAID NOTHING!"
Petra screams in frustration and heads back to her room. She slams her door shut. ((As if she was slammed into a tree or something...)) Her mother giggles and continues doing her house work. Petra looks out the window and sighs. //What has gotten into me? UGH.\\ She clutches her hair and lays her head down. She puts on her pajamas. Petra turns the lights off and starts to close her eyes. She sees flashing visions of Levi and when he kissed her. Her eyes suddenly open as she sits up. She gets up to get water. She runs her eyes as she drinks her water and looks at the time. Her eyes widen and she fiercely put the glass down. Petra runs to her room and puts on her school uniform. //Shit...I'm going to be late...\\ She reaches for her bag and she runs out the door. Trying to catch her breathe, she has realizes that it's a Saturday and there's no school. She walks back into her house and plops on her couch. //Are you kidding me?!\\ She goes back into her room and changes back into a taupe blouse and white pants. Petra turns the stove on high and keeps it there to heat up. She takes left over batter from yesterday's meal and begins to stir it. The stove was now hot enough to make water droplets sizzle and fly. Petra then places a reasonably good amount of batter to make pancakes.
Knock knock knock
"Probably Levi," Petra grunts then turns off the stove and heads for the door.
She practices in the mirror on how to talk and fixes her hair. As she opens the door, Petra smiles brightly but suddenly stands straight up with a blank expression.
It was a young police officer who had a face of distress.
"Hello, is...everything alright, officer?"
Petra becomes nervous as her palms sweat twice as much as they always do.
"Yes everything's fine, for you, but not your mother..."
"W-what did you say?"
"Well, your mother, s-she collapsed at work. She hit her head pretty hard and so we took her to the hospital. ...She hasn't woken up since."
Petra panics and outs her hand on the officer.
"Would you mind taking me there?"
The officer nods, escorting her to his car. Petra trembles as she couldn't even think straight.
//Mom...please be okay.\\
Being her impatient self, Petra rushes into the hospital. The adrenaline inside of her was at the maximum level, making her feel subconscious. As Petra opens the door to her mothers room, she felt as if she hit rock bottom. She saw her mother laying down in a bed of despair.
"M-mom? I...know you really can't hear me, but please get better. We don't know what the hell is wrong with you, but once we find out, I swear...I will work my ass off to pay for your medical bills."
Tears rolled down Petra's eyes. However, she couldn't manage to stop them. Her throat was parched and she was filled with lament.
Ring Ring
Petra wiped her tears and blew her nose. She then answered her phone, not knowing who it is.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Petra. Are you okay? Your voice sounds like a dying whale."
"Um, excuse me? Who is this, and how did you get my number?
"Oh it's Levi, I got your number from Hanji, she handed it over to me.
//Levi, of course it's Levi.\\
Petra sighs and intentionally hangs up because she didn't want to deal with his bullshit today. She turns her phone off and puts it in her bag.
Suddenly, her mother arm twitches.
Petra grabs a chair and sits up.
"M-mom?"
Petra's mother's eyes open slowly. She turns her head and looks at Petra.
"I'm sorry,"
Petra's mother's voice was weak and parched. The atmosphere was heavy.
"Sorry for what?"
Petra's eyes began to water up once again but she held them back. She leans in to her mother to hear what she has to say.
"I-I have cancer."
"Mom, why didn't you tell me? I could have helped y-"
"Because I wanted you stay happy. And please stay happy, for me. That is my only wish.
"Mom..."
"Go home Petra, please."
"But Mom..."
"You can come back tomorrow."
Petra kisses her mom's cheek and leaves.
As she walks back home she looks up and sees the clouds run away from her.
