6 and 8 years old:

"Mum, I'm going to play in the treehouse with Lou," Harry called to his mother as he walked into his backyard.

Louis' backyard backed up to Harry's, so they put a gate in the fence, allowing Harry access to Louis' treehouse.

Harry climbed the ladder before sitting and waiting for Louis. They sat and talked in the treehouse every day since the week Harry moved here last summer.

Louis climbed the ladder not long after Harry, and he smiled at the short kid with curly hair and green eyes.

They sat in the treehouse and played board games and had tickle fights for the next 3 hours until their mums called them home for dinner.

9 and 11 years old:

Louis and Harry still spent every day together. Louis just started middle school, and that's all he could talk about. It made Harry feel a little left out as he spoke of all his older friends.

10 and 12 years old:

Harry was invited to Louis' birthday party. Louis had invited Harry and 3 other boys from his grade. They all spent the day in the treehouse. The other boys sat there and talked about girls the whole time. Harry felt left out as he didn't really like girls; he was only in 5th grade.

Harry zoned out and didn't pay attention to the boys' conversation, but his ears did pick up one thing. "Yeah, the little kid hasn't said anything; he probably doesn't like girls," some kid, Jacob, said. "What do you mean?" Louis asked, genuinely confused at what Jacob was implying. "I'm saying he's a fag" Jacob said as he rolled his eyes looking over at Harry. Harry sat there about to cry, tears brimmed his lower lids, threatening to spill over.

Louis took one look at Harry before he looked back at Jacob, "Get out."

"What" Jacob looked shocked and confused at Louis' sudden change in attitude.

"Harry is more important to me than anyone, so you will not talk about him like that, get out."

The tears spilled out of Harry's eyes. He's not sure whether they were from what Jacob said or the mice words Louis said.

"He's just a baby, look at him he's crying now. I can't believe you're friends with such a loser."

The years continued to fall down Harry's cheeks. This time definitely from Jacob.

"Get out, or I will make you leave" Jacob looked between Harry and Louis before slowly making his way down the ladder and yelling back up at them, "Can't believe you'd choose the fag over me."

Louis then kindly asked the rest of the guests to go home before he and Harry sat in the treehouse talking the whole day.

12 and 14 years old:

Louis got a girlfriend. He stopped talking to Harry as much; he took Eleanor up to the treehouse almost every day.

Harry got really jealous. He knew high school would change Louis, but he didn't think Louis would forget about him.

13 and 15 years old:

Harry told Louis that he was scared he was losing him to Eleanor. Louis got defensive of Eleanor and accused Harry of being jealous and gay. Harry and Louis hadn't talked since.

Louis didn't go in the treehouse at all anymore. Harry was always in the treehouse; he hoped that Louis would come back to him one day, but he never did.

14 and 16 years old:

On Louis' 16th birthday, he climbed the treehouse ladder for the first time in over a year. Harry was sitting there, crying into his hands.
