⇾ The stillness in the room shook Elizabeth Cooper awake from her slumber. The blonde grew startled as she stared at the darkness that occupied her bedroom. Her fingertips quickly grasped her cellphone as the light shined in her face to glance at the time. It read 2:49 a.m. . A small groan grew from the blonde's lips. Today officially marked the start of the new school year.

On the outside, Betty was beyond excited. Inside, her stomach was doing somersaults. Something didn't feel right. Something wasn't sitting right. She stared at her notifications. "4 NEW MESSAGES: Juggie♥︎: (2) Arch (2)" She instantly regretted checking her cell phone. She glanced down to see angry texts from her boyfriend, Jughead Jones. She had accidentally fallen asleep before sending her daily goodnight texts.

Normally, it wouldn't really affect Jughead. However, he was having an off day and Betty spent most of it studying in the school's library and doing homework. She slightly shifted as she read it, making sure not to open it.

✆ [ " But whatever night. " ]

She was unaware of the previous message but he clearly went to bed in a bad mood. Yet, her frown turned into a smile as she glanced at the pop-up text from her best friend Archibald Andrews, better known as Archie.

A little part of Betty has been in love with Archie for ten years. For the past month or so, the feelings for him only grew stronger. But she buried those feelings. It simply felt wrong to be infatuated with someone else while you're in a relationship. Especially your best friend. Childhood best friend. He was with Veronica anyways. B & V were inseparable. She didn't want a boy ruining that.

Deep down, she did genuinely love and care for Jughead Jones. But after three months, something her feelings changed for him. Maybe it was because her boyfriend was being quite short with her lately. Jug seemed to frequently throw accusations at her. She didn't need that. Her mother, Alice Cooper did that enough. Alice was always bashing her for having relations with the infamous Jughead Jones and being friends with Archie Andrews due to her weight-bearing grudge. Her worst slander to her daughter was comparing Betty to her older sister Polly.

Betty turned her to her side, her face parallel to her nightstand. Her clock now read 3:00 a.m. , and she knew she desperately needed more shut-eye. Just as she was about to lock her phone for the night, she made the split second decision to look back at her texts once more. Her pink lips slowly creased upward to form a soft smile. She read the pop-up screen from Archie's text.

✆ [ " Goodnight Betty. " ]

She was too busy worrying about Jughead's texts to even notice his- unfortunately. Betty was always the first one to send the goodnight text to her friends. In the efforts to be the perfect girl, she was asleep by no later than 10:30 every night to make sure she had a full night of rest. That night, she had fallen asleep around 9:30, much earlier than usual. She grew a large headache from her bright light and had fallen asleep due to daily reading.

Reading Archie's text brought a sense of comfort to the blonde. Even after Betty had failed to notify Archie that she had gone to sleep, he still informed Betty of his. Her cheeks began to grow red. It was quite silly how such a simply text could bring her such joy. The 'platonic' affection between the two was incredibly strong and there's was no way she planned on breaking it any time soon.
