Lovely Enemies (fem!anakinxreader)

the next day you all board the ship to head to your assigned places. anakin sits next to you, and you both trade insults until master kenobi tells you for the love of the force, shut up.
you arrive to your assigned planet, and you can tell the battle between the droids and the clones has been going on for awhile. you all stay at a small base camp in tents.

everyday, you're out fighting the seperatist droid army. at night, you all huddle around the campfire and talk, and then retire to your tents. at your base it's you and anakin, a few other jedi, and about thirty clones.

that day you had been fighting and had almost died. you remember the clones were firing at you, and you and anakin were deflecting their shots with your saber. you must have missed one though, because you saw anakins saber deflecting a blast headed right for you.
"watch your back, princess."
at the time you would have been flustered by being called princess, but you were too busy trying not to die. now though, you can't stop thinking about it. you refocus back on what anakin is saying. you're the last ones out by the fire, and you're insulting each other, but in a friendly way.

as you and anakin talk, you hear the clone trooper receive something in his earpiece, but you ignore it. suddenly, his blasted is pointed at the both of you. you reach for your saber and anakin already has hers out. the clone trooper fires two blasts at you, and anakin deflects one of them with her saber, the blast ricocheting back and hitting the trooper. anakin looks back over to you but you're on the ground, the other blast having hit you in the side. she rushes over to you and kneels down, and you feel her pulling you into into her arms. looking up at her, you realize this is it. this is the end, you get no second chance, no more time to tell her how you feel.
"anakin..." she cuts you off.
"shhhh, save your strength, you're going to be fine." you wish you could believe her, but the tears running down her face show that she doubts her own words. you reach down and grab her hand, trying to ignore the pain in your side.
"ani... i love you." she lets out a sob and pulls you in closer to her chest.
"i love you too." she whispers in your ear. you can hear more clone troopers on their way, they must have heard the first two blasts. anakin lowers you to the ground and gives you a gentle kiss on the forehead. out of the corner of your eye you see more clone troopers showing up. before anakin turns away, you see a wild and angry look in her eyes. she stands up, igniting her saber. everything feels in slow motion, and you really realize that this is the end. it doesn't feel like anything. it feels... lonely. like going to sleep, but you're the only person in the world. you told anakin you loved her, now she knows. that's all you needed. you can finally let go. you close your eyes, taking a deep breath and letting the drowsiness take over. the whole world fades away.
