Love Me When I'm Gone [One Shot Story]

Third Person's POV

    At the Gonzales' residence, they are celebrating the 45th birthday of Serenity's mom. Serenity is such a tall and beautiful lady. From her hair, eyes, down to her pointed nose and almost perfect appearance. The only flaw that can be seen is her pale skin.

     It was already dark outside when Clariza, Serenity's best friend just arrived. Well, it must be true that same birds really flocks together since they are both beautiful in their own way. Yet, the difference between the two is that, Clariza obtain a healthy skin and Serenity does not.

      "Hey Clariza, I want you to meet my boyfriend." She is pertaining to Luke who's currently inside the house. The boy wave his right hand and quickly walk towards the two.

     "Since when? You haven't told me something about that." Clariza stated but Serenity just smile at her.

     "Luke, I want you to meet my bestfriend, Clariza." Serenity said, and after that the two both extended their hands and shake it.

     "Can I leave for a while? I'll just get some food for you to eat, if you'll excuse me." Serenity left them after saying those statements.

     Luke and Clariza started to make face to face conversation. It is undeniable that Luke admires the Ms. Universe-like face of Clariza.

   "So, you are the lucky guy." Clariza stated to Luke while giving a beautiful wide smile.

   "Well, yeah. I-I guess." Luke answered with hesitation. Clariza started to feel uncomfortable due to the undefined stares of Luke. The man was about to utter a word again, when Serenity came back with the food on her.

     Five days already passed after the birthday celebration of Mrs. Gonzales. Serenity dialed her best friend's phone number. "Clariza, can you do me a favor?" her voice asked softly on the other line.

     "Anything for my best friend. What is it?" Clariza answered.

     "Luke and I are having a date later; I guess I'll be late. So please, can you escort him while I'm not yet around?" Serenity asked the favor with full of trust and confidence. She stated the place and the time when.

     Serenity is fighting with a blood cancer for seven years. They went together with her mom into her doctor to do her Chemotherapy session, that's why she asked Clariza to be with Luke while she's not around. She doesn't even want to tell this matter to her best friend nor her boyfriend. Serenity wants to keep it as a secret.

    As they arrived at the hospital, she wants to finish the session quickly because of the excitement she was feeling for their date. But suddenly, destiny forbidden itself.

     "Sorry to tell you Mrs. Gonzales but the therapy isn't working anymore, her life won't take longer than 6 months.", the doctor said while tapping the shoulder of Serenity's mom.

     The girl confined immediately at the hospital. On the other side, Luke and Clariza are enjoying and feeling the moment together. Without noticing that it was already 12 o'clock in the midnight. And they didn't even notice the text messages of Serenity to the both of them, saying "I will not able to come for some reason, I'm sorry."

     Luke sent Clariza on their house. Clariza is about to open the door when Luke pulled her back and kiss her on her lips. The girl felt like there were butterflies in her stomach. They were both shocked after that incident. Even Luke felt confused, but he can't deny the fact that he really means it.

     For the past days that Serenity wasn't there, it was Clariza who replaced on her shoe. Luke finds the time that he needs in the presence of his girlfriend's bestfriend, who's always there for him while Serenity is not around without knowing the fact what her girl's situation is.

Weeks have passed...

     "Mom, promise me that you're not going to tell this to Luke or even to Clariza." Serenity pleased her mom. Mrs. Gonzales just answer a smile to convince her suffering daughter.

     Luke and Clariza were dating secretly. Seems like they already forgotten to ask: "How is Serenity?" ; "Where is she?" ; "Why didn't she makes calls nor texts?". They were both blinded by the impact of flirting on each other. The two are currently kissing passionately, when Luke's phone rang. And only to find out that it was Serenity's mom whose calling. They were both shook while looking at the phone's screen. It took time after he answered the call.

     "H-hello tita?" Luke said with struggling voice.

     "Lu-Luke, you really need t-to know this, though Serenity a-asked me not to tell you. But she badly needs you in able for her to keep fighting. She's really in pain son. Atleast stay at her side, for the re-rest of her life." the voice on the other line was broken, Mrs. Gonzales is crying.

     "W-wh-what do you mean Tita?" he asked, trying to convinced himself that Serenity is okay, that his girlfriend is fine.

     "J-just  come here son." she ordered and also stated the name of the hospital.

     Luke immediately drove the car, he even left Clariza hanging with the question in her mind: "What's going on?". So, she dialed Serenity's phone number with trembling hands, but it was Serenity's mom who answered, she tells everything and Clariza quickly go there. Luke arrived at the hospital and found the room of his girlfriend. After seeing his lying and almost dying girl, tears were continously fell down on his face.

     "I-I'm sorry babe, I d-didn't know. Why did you kept it secret to me? You're really unfair! You made me believed that the problem was within you, but definitely it was within me. I haven't even asked you if how are you. I almost forgot you and I almost forgot that I love you. I'm r-really sorry babe. I am a dumbass jerk! I was a fool man, so stupid to set you aside, and worst to cheat on you. I love you Serenity. I'm really sorry for what I've done. Please be strong babe, don't leave me please. Please.", he is still crying after saying those words. Unconsciously, a tear fell down from Serenity's left eye.

     Clariza heard everything. Her knees weakened and it lead her to sat down on the floor. She felt double pain, the pain that she was already inlove with Luke, and the mere fact that they both cheated on her innocent bestfriend.

     After six months Serenity died, but Luke promised to himself and to Serenity that she will always be kept inside his heart. And will not do it again, the stupidity that he has done. Never again. Apparently, Clariza made realization to herself. They both realized that what they did was definitely wrong. They were just both trapped in the idea of "flirting" and not "love". They also admitted that they really cheated Serenity behind her dying back. And maybe this phenomenon serves as a lessons to their lives. As a lesson for Luke that even how much he regrets, has no count after all. He should have valued her girl's life when she's still alive because regrets always come at the end.

Ps: This story is one of my activity in 21st Century Literature, my subject way back Grade 11, second semester. I just feel like posting it, kasi makapal mukha ko e. HAHA
