Chapter 1

*Hanes POV*

I bolt upright from where i was sleeping, breathing heavily and clutching a thin blanket that barely cover my toes to my chest. Beads of sweat trickled down my forehead as i looked around

'Just another nightmare....' i think to myself. I look up to see the sun starting.to rise and groan knowing itll be another day of fighting to stay alive while all those nobles and kings stuff their faces whenever they please. I stood up and popped my back

"Alright Hane! Lets get to work!" I whisper yell to myself, not risking waking anyone of my neighbors up. I walked out of the little tent like home i had seat up and walked outside into the streets of the slums, The slums arent that bad actually they are filled with kind people that help eachother, unlike the city streets where people push and shove to get where they are heading.

I walk into the streets of the old town that the slums are by as my stomach growl loudly.

"Its been a while since ive eatten" i mumbled to myself as i look around for anything i could possibly steal or maybe buy with the little money i have. I groaned as i walked further into the streets, only a few people out at this time of day so it was easy to navigate without having to worry about being shoved to the ground by a careless man or heartless woman.

'Since i cant pay for anything...ill just have to steal it...shouldnt be a problem if i dont get caught' i thought walking behind a nearby building. I snapped my fingers together as lightning shot out of them "perfect" i smiled "thank you rukh!" I whisper yelled to the tiny white birds((butterflys?))flying around me, they always seem to leand me strenght when i need it. I snapped my fingers again, this time pointing right above a guys shop, the man flinched as the bright lighting lit up his shop temporarily blinding him, i took that moment to grab two peaches from his basket and ran off.

I hid behind a tree and stared at the juicy peaches in my hands. I licked my lips then bit into one of the peaches, waisting no time eatting the entire thingAnd did the same with the second.

"You shouldnt eat like that, itll give you a tummy ake!" An all too familiare voice said. I smiled and looked up at a young girl with beautiful brown.hair that goes just beond her shoulders, and glowing green eyes. Her fair skin seemed to glow in the morning light.

"Katie!" I ran over to her and hugged her. You see, katie is my best friend she found me when i was around the age of ten, herself being 11, when i ran away from my slave owner. I know, i know shocker right? Im a former slave and a runaway, but my master was a jerk so i hit the road leaving him in the dust. I bet hes mad, he did spend a lot on me but i couldnt care less. But anyways, Katie took me in.and we raised eachother like sister. I say raised eachother because katie and i had no parents, the only parent like figures we had where the older kids in the slums since the actual parents of the slums where too busy rasing their own.children to look after us. But i was fine with it just being Katie and i, after all, we have a close bond because of it.

"Okay okay hane get of me!" She giggled as i let her go. Sje dustedoff her torn grey dress and looked at me with her signature goofy smile,

"What? Whats with that stupid face?" I asked lightly flicking her forehead.

She winced but quickly shook it off and put on her smile again

"A prince of the kou empire is going to.come through here today!! Can you believe ot hane!?" She squealed and started bouncing around

I sigh, shes always had an obsession with the kou empire princes. I dont know how or when this started but its there, shed give anything to meet them and shake their hands. But rich people are all the same...he will probably push poor katie away and tell her to shoo like some animal....but of course i have to support katie, cause we are like sisters.

"Really? Who told you this information kat?" I asked crossing my arms over my chest

"A little birdie~! Now,,comeonletsgo!" She quickly said then grabed my hand, and loke that she was draggng me into the streets of the city. Just great....
