“This is 68th Street. Next stop, 59th Street. Please stand clear of the closing doors.”
I get off next. New faces enter as the old ones leave the train.
A middle-aged couple decides to take the seats to my left. They make no noise that changes the silence at first. But then, they hold their coffee cups to their mouths and take small sips. Sometimes they sip at the same time, and sometimes one lets the other sip first before sipping their own coffee.
