Chapter 2: Leap of Faith

After getting into swimwear, each of us made our way up to the tallest cliff on the island, where we had been instructed to go. Chris meets us there with a smug grin on his face.

"This can't be good" Courtney says

"Today's challenge is three-fold" Chris explains, "your first task is to jump off this 1000 ft high cliff into the lake."

"Piece of cake" Bridgette comments.

"If you look down, you will see two target areas. The wider area represents the part of the lake that we have stocked with psychotic, man eating sharks" Chris laughs like the maniac he is.

I could only roll my eyes, already annoyed at the sound of his voice.

"Inside that area is a safe zone" Chris continues, "that's your target area which we're pretty sure is shark free?"

"Excuse me?" Leshawna questions.

Excuse me was by far an understatement.

"What were you saying about them going easy on our first day DJ?" I smirk at the big guy who smiled sheepishly and scratched the back of his neck.

"For each member of your team that jumps and actually... survives, there will be a crate of supplies waiting below. Inside each create are the supplies that you will need to complete the second part of the challenge, building a hot tub. The team with the best one gets to have a wicked hot tub party tonight. The losers will be sending someone home. Let's see, Killer Bass you're up first."

My eyes go wide, "can't we watch the Screaming Gofers go first?"

"Why you chicken Alisha?" Heather questions from the other team with a smirk.

"N-no, not at all."

I look over the edge of the cliff, gulping before joining the rest of my team.

"So, who wants to go first?" Bridgette asks

Every one of us stays quiet.

"Not all at once guys" Eva comments, "who's up?"

"Ladies first" Duncan smirks

"Chicken" I say under my breath.

"Fine, I'll go, nothing more than just a cliff dive into a circle of angry sharks" Bridgette says before jumping.

I rush to the cliff edge and discover she had made it, relief rushes over me.

"She did it guys!"

"I'm next!" Tyler yells who unfortunately hits a buoy on the edge of the target.

Just like that, each camper takes a turn at a leap of faith.

Geoff and Eva follow after them and make it into the target. Then it comes to me, but I don't feel the confidence.

"I don't know guys; it seems really far down..."

I start stepping back from the edge slowly but my back hits someone and I turn around and see Duncan standing there with a smirk.

"Don't tell me you're going all chicken on us now."

"N-no, I-I mean, maybe?"

Duncan then grabs my wrist and I look down.

"Wh-what are you doing Duncan?" I ask nervous as all hell.

"Ensuring you do the jump."

That's when he runs, taking me with him and we both jump together.

"Duncan!"

We both land in the middle of the target thankfully. We both swim to the boat once we resurface and climb on board. We both sit down on one of the seats with towels wrapped around us.
