I got my ass moving alright. Just not towards the man in the car. I turned right and ran towards a building that had smoke coming from it. Someone must be in there. They could help me. Call the cops or something. I knew the men chasing me were almost on me now. It wasn't that I could hear them or anything like that. It was that skin crawling feeling I had back in the white room.
I was almost to a loading bay. That was how I planed to get to my help. Just as I reached it the bay door was thrown open. It could have been the light behind him that was giving him that angelic lighting but I knew that wasn't it. The light was burning in him. Not behind him. He was latterly glowing.
I don't know how I ever thought he looked angelic. Even if it was only for a second. He had dark hair that was almost black but not quite. It hung down to his shoulders. His eyes were a dark blue that twinkled with mischief. His cheek bones could have rivaled Michael Angelo's David's for perfection. He had a roman nose. That had a little bend in it. Proudly from one to many fist fights. His lips were quirked up in a grin. He didn't say anything. He just stared at me expectantly. Like he knew I would fallow him. My mind didn't quite remember him, but something inside me said id fallow him to the end of the world and back.
I looked behind me for only a brief moment. Long enough to know it was trust this mysterious stranger or get grabbed by the goons. Who happened to e only two feet behind me. So I made the only logical choice. I did neither.
Two of the men came flying at me trying to tackle me. The third goon hung back a little bit. I dropped to the pavement and they went flying past me. I scrambled trying to get up and run. The third guy was there to 'help' me up by grabbing a fist full of hair and yanking up. A good knee to the groin brought him down a little and a fantastic left hook ha him releasing me hair and grabbing his nose. If he wanted to fight like a girl I had no problem fighting dirty. The guy who was holding the bay open still just stood there smirking. What an ass.
"Thanks for the help." It was said under my breath but he heard. He chuckled and it was a pleasing sound. It made me fight a smile. I knew I knew this guy but I couldn't remember him. I didn't know if I could trust him. He smiled and offered his hand to help me up on the platform. The two men who had tried to tackle me were about to try for me again. It was either take his offered hand or Im sure I could have came up with some other plan but I knew this was the best choice.
I took the offered hand and let him hall me inside. He shut and locked the bay doors. Being up close to him I realized how big he was. He had to be about 6'5" He was very muscular. And looked very fit. Which made me wonder who could have gotten in the hit to his face that broke his nose.
He gave me a quick once over. "What took you so long?" His voice was a low rumble that sent shivers down my spine. The warm fuzzy kind. It took my brain a few moments to catch what the words meant. "Excuse me? And who the hell are you? He just stared, unblinkingly so. After what felt like forever but was only a few seconds he lifted his hand to my face and brushed the hair behind my ear. "We need to get out of here. There will be more of them coming."
Just like that he spun around and started heading towards another bay loading area. "You honestly just expect me to leave with you after everything that's just happened to me? Are you fucking insane?" I damn near shouted at him. He had to be crazy. "Get your ass in the car and I'll explain everything." And just like that I froze.
That was basically the same thing the guy in the first car said. I didn't want to get in a vehicle with anyone. I needed to find out how to get away without any one with me or fallowing me. "I've got an idea. You take the car and drive out of here as fast as you can. Those guys will see and take off after you. Then you can double back and pick me up when its safe." Or I could steal a car and take off in the other direction. He looked like he was thinking about it. Then that devil may care smile crossed his face and in my head I could see him smiling at me that way before. I just couldn't remember why though.
"Not going to happen baby. Get. In. The. Car." The look on his face left me speechless. He looked terrifying. Like he was going to suck my soul out. "Listen buster. I aint no ones baby. And I sure as hell aint gonna listen to someone I don't know. I'll take my chances and get out of this mess myself. Thanks." I turned around to find another was out. Instead I saw a shimmery blue light and suddenly I was inside the car watching Mr. Tall, Dark, and now totally scary get in the drivers side. "Neat trick huh?" He winked at me and sped out of the warehouse. I was speechless. My mind couldn't figure out what just happened.
I'm crazy. That's it. It made perfect sense. I woke up in a mental institution. The men chasing me are orderly's. And he is a delusion. That's how I 'magically' appeared in car, I must be having a mental break down. I just had to let it play out. That's what I kept telling myself.
"Mind explaining all of this to me?' I had my body angled towards him but pressed back against the door to keep as far from him as possible. Until I regained my memory I wouldn't trust anyone. Not even myself. "How much do you remember?" He glanced at me out of the corner of his eyes but only for a second before he focused back on the road. "Why don't you tell me everything you know and we'll go from there." I didn't want to admit to not knowing anything. "That little huh?" He chuckled. Like it was funny.
"If you think its so funny why don't you try waking up and finding yourself in a horror movie." I was pretty pissed off and I didn't know who I was more mad at. Him for laughing or me for not remembering. It wasn't until just now that I realized I had n o idea where we were or where we were heading. "Where are we going?" "As far from here as we can get. Before you were taken we were in the middle of something very important. And a lot of people were trying to srtop us and still are." I tried to remember what he was talking about but nothing came to mind. So I sat in silence for a few minuets. I just stared out the wind shield taking in all there was to see. Which wasn't very much this late at night. I looked at the dash bored to see it was two in the morning. Then I looked back up just in time to see a 'welcome to Sydney' sign.
"Sydney?" "Yes. Sydney Australia. It's where you told us to bring you." I hadn't even realized id spoken out loud until he answered. "Why did I want you to bring me here? Wait. Us? Who is us?" It had only taken a moment to realize he said us but as it sunk in it was more the way he said it that made me question it. "We can discuss everything once we get somewhere safe." He seemed at ease, but I could tell he was a little tense. It was the little things he did with his body. Things most people wouldn't pay any mind to. So why then did I? It was second nature it seemed. Other wise I wouldn't have done it.
"So just to be clear. Your saying a car with only the two of us in it isn't a safe place to talk?" "Yes and no." I waited for him to elaborate, but he didn't. "I see." I then waited just a moment for him to put his full focus back on the road. That's when I opened the car door and threw myself out onto the mercy of the pavement.
