"We took a Polaroid, she signed her name upon it"
It was a Saturday morning just like any other- the only difference was that it was the first weekend of spring. I'd been waiting for spring to come around so that the world would come back to life. I loved all of it- the colors, the sounds, the warmth. My phone started ringing and I peeked at the caller ID.
Jackson, it read. I sighed and debated on whether or not I wanted to talk to him this early in the morning. Don't get me wrong, Jackson was definitely my best friend, but he'd been in a long term relationship with his girlfriend, Jessica, for the past two years, and he was constantly trying to put me in situations where I could potentially find a girlfriend of my own. Unfortunately for him, no one has taken over my heart, like Jess did to him. He claims it was love at first sight, but in all honesty, Jess kept him at bay for almost a year before finally giving him a chance.
This would be one of the few times his annoying persistence worked in his favor.
"Yo. What's up man. Why're you up this early?" I greeted him, as I picked up the phone.
"Wow. Love you too bro. Jess kicked me out this morning cause I kept distracting her from her assignment," Jackson stated, sounding a tiny bit proud of himself.
"At least she still has her priorities right after being around someone like you for the past two years."
"Whatever, man. What are you doing tonight?"
"Well-"
"Oh. You're free? Good. Let's go to a club tonight. Jess said I can't go back to her place until after the assignment is due, which is tomorrow afternoon. So let's have a guy's night."
"As I was trying to say before, I wanted to take pictures tonight. Clear skies in the suburbs. Which means a night sky full of stars, surrounding a bright full moon."
"Okay, so I normally would support your hobbies and interests, but not when it gets in the way of time with me."
"Time with you, or time with you trying to get me a girl?"
"Same difference bro. Look. Jess really wants a 'couple friend', whatever that is supposed to mean. The double dates she's dragged me on in the past couple of months have been nothing short of horrendous. Save me. Please." I slightly chuckled, recalling his face of agony as Jess explained how the double dates went with excitement from beside him.
"It's not funny bro!" He continued.
"If you can make me wait for at least another month to get these pics, I can laugh at your distress."
"Does that mean you'll come?"
"You really only process the parts you want to, huh?"
"Why would I process anything I don't want to hear?" He questioned back, as if it was completely normal. I rolled my eyes, even though I know he can't see. "Listen. What better way to start your favorite time of the year than by going to the club? Spring is all about things coming back to life and vibrancy. We haven't gone clubbing since college."
"Jax. We graduated like not even 4 months ago."
"Andre. It was winter and we didn't really go out then."
"Your logic is insane."
"You still love me."
"And I am always wondering why. Jess and I have discussed this at length more than a couple times."
"You wha-"
"You weren't supposed to know," I proceed to tease. He's so easy. "I'm gonna hang up now. I need to go eat."
