Life SHOULDN'T be this way.

Life should NEVER happen this way.

Life ISN'T supposed to be this way.

We met in high school, I never a knowledged him because I always thought he was the type to play girls, he was a thug, but he had a good heart.

He was the leader of BB, meaning; Black Bandanna, a gang located in the south side of New Orleans.

Months later, I had a change of heart. I started to feel some type of way about this dude, maybe he could actually be a good guy, beside him being in a gang. Dates, after dates, graduation, living a good life,

we got married in Hawaii, no one could believe it. Just by looking at us and knowing our personalities, you just would think that they wouldn't mix, but that didn't matter, we were happy together and that's all that mattered.

Years later, I got pregnant with my daughter Amaiya. She was beautiful, you know how they say "You never really experience love until you have your first child?"

Well that was the same feeling with me. It should have been the same feeling with my husband as well.

Every since Amaiya was born, I knew she was going to be somebody, I just had that feeling.

*********************************************

Amaiya was now six years old and that's when my husband, August began to change. Even though he was in a gang, he still managed his music career.

He beat me and my six year old daughter, Amaiya. When it happend I was in shock, never in a million years I would ever think he would put his hands on me along with our daughter. Amaiya. Amaiya always had the passion for dance, dance runs in the blood. .

I just know that her and I's passion for dance could have not triggered his frustration. It had to be something deeper than that.

Flashback
I was walking down the stairs with Amaiya on my hip, walking back in forth waiting for August to come home. It was 11 p.m. and he still wasn't home. "Mommy why isn't daddy home yet?" Amaiya asked.
I sighed, I don't know baby. Minutes went by and I heard the locks on the door click. August was home. I put amaiya down and walked over to him.

"Hi August" I said. He looked at me and just walked past. "Hi daddy" Amaiya said. He just walked past her like she didn't just speak. "Come on Amaiya." I said, I picked her up walking past August, upstairs to my room. That's the moment I wish I could take back because once I reached the stairs he attacked me as long as Amaiya.
I was fighting him trying to get him off of Amaiya and I, but he wouldn't budge. I kicked him in his area and ran up the stairs carrying Amaiya. I got to my room and locked my self in the closet with Amaiya. She started to cry, "Shhh baby, shhh." I said.
I started to hear foot steps, he was coming. Amaiya started to cry louder. "Shhh baby, he's coming." She tucked her head into my lap and cried softly.
" Nola where are you! I'm sorry!" August said.

I started to cry softly holding Amaiya, I didn't know what was wrong with August , this is a side of him I never seen.

I started to hear glass shatter, and I knew he was throwing things. He has lost it. I pulled my phone out of my pocket, and dialed 911.

"Hello, 911 what's your emergency?"

"My husband, he- he beat my child and I." I said into the phone, while trying to calm Amaiya down at the same time.

"Okay ma'am help is on the way, we will locate your location.

"Okay please hurry!" I said.

I pulled Amaiya closer to me, as I heard August walk closer.
He kicked the closet door "NOLAAAAA!!!!!"
All I could do was pray that the police would be outside my house right now, because with all these bruises, and blood, and August acting crazy, I don't know if Amaiya or I is going to make it out alive.
