Chapter One

Eva opened her eyes from the dark dream that has been haunting her. She sat up and swung her legs lazily to the side. She stretched and peeked out the window. The Trost District was definently in a bustle. She got up and went to the bathroom to get dressed for the day.

Eva is a sixteen year old girl from the Shiganshina District in Wall Maria. She has long blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes. She is part of the 104th cadet corps class along with her childhood friends Eren, Mikasa and Armin.

Eva's full name is Evangeline Cohen but she prefers Eva. She brushed through her silky hair and ended up tying it to its usual high ponytail, her bangs hanging loosely on her face. She blew some of her bangs away. 'I'm gonna have to cut my hair soon' she thought. She put on her cadet corps uniform on along with the 3D maneuver gear. She looked at herself in the mirror and smiled. 'This is gonna be a good day'

She stepped out of the apartment building and finds Jean waiting for her. He was in his uniform too. He normally has that cocky look on his face but he seemed to be really beaming this time. He was staring down at the ground but suddenly looked up at her, finally noticing her presence.

"Ah! Eva! Finally..." He mumbled but smiled, showing that he's just joking. Eva smiled back.

"Sorry." She laughed, rubbing the back of her head, her cheeks reddening in embarrassment. "I couldn't sleep last night." She told him with a nervous laugh.

"Me neither." Jean agreed, crossing his arms behind his head. "Come on, the others are already in the square. " He urged. He began walking to the square -Main street where the Survey Corps leave for expeditions- Eva followed behind.

Eva and Jean have a really confusing relationship. Eva is known to be a soft and loving girl, second to Krista Lenz. Jean didn't really like that. He would always point out that her soft personality would be the death of her. Eva never hated nor talked back to him. She would simply apologize and smile. Eren would always stick up for her. They grew up together so he knows that she was always like this but never knew why. Jean began bonding with her during one of their training drills where they were forced to climb a very rocky and steep cliff. It began to rain and the cold temperature, plus the freezing rain began to set into everyones bones. Jean was located in the middle of the group while Eva was in front along with Mikasa, Annie and Reiner. Jean unlatched his hook to shoot higher but as soon as he disconnected his hook, his hands began slipping off the rocks. The wnd and rain was too loud for anyone to hear his shouts for help. He couldn't hang on any longer and he fell. Suddenly a miracle happened. He was caught in someone's arms from behind. Jean had closed his eyes and he kept them closed until they reached the top of the cliff.

He heard panting in front of him when they were on safe ground. He opened his eyes and found Eva in front of him, panting from extreme exhaustion. He was so shocked that the girl he teased actuallly saved his life. The next day, he apologized to her in front of everyone. She brushed it off as no big deal but he has been clinging to her ever since. She doesn't know that her resolve is to follow her wherever she goes.

"Eva!" Armin called out. Eva's head shot up and began searching around until her eyes landed on one of her childhood friends, Armin. He was standing by Eren and Mikasa. Mikasa seemed to be scolding him again. Eva began to walk faster to them, Jean close behind. As much as Jean hates Eren, he can take Mikasa and Armin. She finally reached them and they all began conversing on how they are finally graduating.

The crowd began to roar as the Survey Corps began marching to the gate in their formation. Both Eren's and Eva's eyes lit up at the sight. Eren has always wanted to join the Survey Corps, wanting to venture outside the walls and wear thw wings of freedom. Eva's father was in the Survey Corps so she wished to follow in his footsteps. They saw Commander Erwin, Squad Leader Hanji and the best soldier alive, Corporal Levi.

"Eh? That's Corporal Levi? He's a lot shorter than I thought he was... But he still looks cool!" Eren exclaimed maybe a bit too loudly since Levi heard it. He glanced over to that remark and saw five new cadets looking at him in awe. He sighed.

"Aw! Wait until they find out how much of a clean freak you are!" Hanji laughed. Levi simply looked at her in that same normal stern glare but didn't say anything. 'Brats' he thought. They all watched the Survey Corps head out through the gates of Wall Rose into Wall Maria, Titan Territory. Everyone then went to their graduation ceremony at the Main Court Hall.

The membersof the 104th Training Corps graduating class, of which the top ten cadets are qualified to enlist with the Military Police.

After the ceremony, they gave all graduating cadets one last chore to do as a class. Eva was stuck with artillery maintenance of the east side of the Wall along with Jean, Marco, Reiner and Bertolt.

"Where the HELL is Bertolt!? That guy ditching us to do his work?" Jean cursed at the thought.

"He said he had to speak with Captain Shadis." Marco answered. Marco is almost like a male version of Eva, personality wise. Only difference is that he voices his opinions while Eva keeps them to herself. They continued to work and that's when Reiner pops the question that everyone has been trying to answer.

"So what division are you guys joining?" He asked.

"Military Police." Marco answered. Jean agreed also but deep down he was still unsure. They all turned to Eva who was fiddling with a pebble in her hand. She had her head down, an attempt to turn invisible which failed.

"You still haven't decided!?" Reiner asked, clearly stressed at her unsureness.

"It's not that I'm unsure!" Eva said. "I just don't know if I'm ready to actually go through with my decision." She mumbled. They all had finished with the maintenance so they chilled a bit. Eva sat at the edge of Wall Rose, her legs dangling on the side. She was looking into the Titan Territory which used to be Wall Maria. She sighed as she thought of her life then before the invasion.

"Careful you don't fall." Someone warned behind her. She knew it was Jean. He crouched down next to her, curious at what she was looking at. She laughed at his warning.

"I'll be alright." She laughed. They all sat in silence when suddenly... the horror of five years ago was happening again. A bolt of lightning exploded in front of the Wall and there stood... The Colossal Titan. It all happened in slow motion. Eva's horrified gasp, Jean jumping up, pulling her along with him. She was able to get both feet on the Wall when the scorching steam from the Titan rushed at them with such force that the imapct knocked everyone off the Wall. Eva shot out a line but was knocked off the Wall and she began to fall...
