What if there was this dystopian society completely alienated from the rest of the world, and nobody knew that there were other people out there? And they had their own belief system and moral code and everything, and part of it was to select a teenager every year on this holiday to be sacrificed to these gods, and nobody knew how bad it was and if they did they didn't dare say it because the punishment for doubt in the gods was mass execution. And one year someone is picked, and they pretend to be all honored and psyched, but in real life they're terrified. But then some outsider sneaks into the society and sets the sacrifice free, and has to teach him/her how to act in the super-modern world.
