Chapter 3

Rays of light filtered through the small hut right into the eyes of a two year old.

The two year old looked around her with sleep blurring her sight, the hut soon came to focus after a few blinks. As soon as the image of what was in front of her became clear, so did her memories.

Tears blurred her vision again as she let out a dry sob and curled back into the blankets, her heart shuddered in a painful way as she tried to suppress her feelings.

It was better this way, if they were still here then she wouldn't have been able to leave.

She wiped around the tears that wanted to fall as she sat up, looking around the hut she let out a shuddering exhale. She stood noticing the blood, grit, and grime still covering her, she grimaced as she went to her pack.

Climbing it, she dug out what she need, including some of Rin's old clothes and Shippo's bag. Packing what she could carry she looked around once more before brushing aside the grass matt door and heading out.

She walked until she came by a stream she normally bathed in. Stripping down the miko child did just that, she washed away all the blood, grit, grime, and aches of what happened. Using the clays and soaps a village woman left out carelessly she bathed.

Quickly exiting the stream she dried off and dressed in one of Rin's older and shorter kimo, it still touched the ground, but that wasn't a worry.

She left for the well, she fought every urge there was to just go back to Western Lands and stay with Sesshomaru, this wasn't her place, the future was, there she belonged.

Exhaling deeply she crawled up to the lip of the well before jumping off. The light blue wisps caught her, slowly bring her to the ground in her time.

Looking up once the lights dimmed and then disappeared she sighed. Reaching for the ladder she climbed it heading to her house.

It was silent, a reminder that no one was left, that she was truly alone now, that there was no promise of her ever having a family again.

Heading around back she pushed the unlock screen door open. Her chubby hands gripped at it as a surge of memory flashed through her.

Souta laughed loudly as his sister stood in the back yard dripping wet. Her grandfather smiled amusedly at the two as he swept the grounds, her mother giggled, covering her mouth, holding a towel for Kagome.

She whimpered softly, before the tears could well up she let go, heading to the stairs. She crawled up them, heading to her room. Reaching it, she pushed open the door and set to work on doing what needed to be done.

Pulling out her laptop, she pulled up a few websites. She had been planning to make herself disappear for when she was going to stay in the Feudal Era instead of being turned into a child and staying.

It took her a few hours and by that time it was noon, she yawned, rubbing at her eyes as she shut down the laptop and placed it under her bed, she had set everything so that the house stayed in her name and the shrine would be taken of until she was old enough to tend to it herself.

She smiled dazedly before climbing into the bed and taking a nap.

Waking up chosed to be difficult as she struggled against the covers, she yawned stretching. Her blue eyes scanned the room, she sat up got out the bed, straightened her kimono reaching for her pack she walked out the door after seeing it was 4.

She smiled sadly as she climbed down the stairs, out the house and then down the many shrine steps.

Tears leaked from her eyes, she didn't care for where she was going, she just walked, her feet led her to the park she always went to as a child, the one she took Sota to instead of their father after he passed, the one she went to with Inuyasha with sometimes, the one Sesshomaru had yet to see.

She tripped and fell, she cried harder and as she was going to sit up a shadow landed on her shoulders.

"You okay?"

The chopped up words met Kagome's ears and she looked up to meet golden eyes , she held in a breathe at the color, and a pink hair little girl, maybe the same age as her.

"No." She shudderedly answered, still on the ground, she watched as pinkette ran off.

She thought she was left alone again so she stood and wiped at her eyes. She looked up as she heard footsteps, heavy dense footfalls from adults.

In front of her stood what looked to be the pinkette's parents.

The woman bent down in front of Kagome and dusted her off a bit.

"Well who do we have here? What's your name?" The woman smiled softly as if to not scare her away.

"Kagome." She muttered, her hands clenched in the cloth of her kimono.

"Hi Kagome, I'm Midori, where are your parents?" She tilted her head trying to ease Kagome, not knowing truly how old she was.

"Dead." The one word shocked the couple. the pinkette looked around questionly the word not yet taught to her.

"Ne, Kagome, where did you come from?" Midori asked again. She worried her lip as she waited for Kagome to answer.

Kagome purposely furrowed her brows and put a thinking face on.

Midori frowned seeing this, she tilted her head back at her husband, he knew the look that cross her face and just nodded after a moment.

"Kagome."

Kagome looked back up at the woman with a curious gaze.

"Can you come with us? Just for a little while?" She asked, her polite smile back in place, the pinkette chose that moment to take a step forward.

"Play with Amu?" She asked probing a bit more.

Kagome tensely nodded, she could already tell that this family where a very good one, their souls' shone brightly and promised a healthy future.

She reached out and took Amu's hand and they walked over to the sand box and started playing, Kagome kept a careful watch over the two adults out of the corner of her eye and an ear.

She heard them whispering as Midori pulled out a cellphone and dialed what she guess was child protective services.

She felt as the woman's aura bubbled for a moment, with happiness, before her name was called loudly along with Amu's.

She looked up just in time for Midori to pick her up.

"Kagome, do you want to stay with us?"
