He was tired. He wanted to close his eyes and curl in bed, to finally sleep after weeks of avoiding the need. But the thought of seeing the lives he failed to save, watching loved one's faces contorting in pain, sometimes hearing the screams of death echo across a darkened landscape. To see his brother lay half dead, almost on fire, to see a beloved friend die without knowing the fate of her children. Witnessing an unrequited love die within his own arms, whispered last words a painful repeat, finding out the ones he trusted more than anyone would kill him on sight. Not being able to find out perhaps the best man he ever met's fate, wondering if he'd been killed already or even remembered him anymore.

The fear of relieving it all kept "Old Ben" up at night. The only hope he ever had going forward was a twist of life would come his way, and with that twist a chance to leave the life he regretted behind.
