Marilyn's Story
-------------------
Marilyn Montague was born May 17th 1889. She lived with her mother and brother in a luxurious house near Southampton. In her childhood she would mostly read, play with her brother, or learn new things. One of the things she learned how to do was bake cookies, cakes and other deserts. She wanted to pursue this, and open a bakery in her town, but disaster would strike. She was 18 when her mother and brother had passed away, and the house was burned down. She, at this point, was all alone. But, she had inherited a very very large sum of money, enough to open 3 large bakeries, so she decided to try and pitch the idea to acupuncturist, but no one wanted to help her, as they all thought it would fail. Years had passed, and with no hope in her town, she made a big decision and decided she was going to head to America to pitch the idea. America was a place to start over correct? So that's where she was headed. She bought a First Class ticket to the ship everyone was talking about, The Titanic, and on April 10th, 1912, she boarded the legendary ship
She was headed to her quarters to put her stuff there before waving goodbye to the crowd when someone ran into her, knocking them both on their feet. She got run over by Antonio John. Antonio was mad she wasn't looking where she was going, she said sorry and proceeded forward, but then she stopped. She didn't know why, but she felt the need NOT to heave the kid, so she offered to him if he would like to wave bye with her. He was confused, but he accepted. They were seen waving bye on the bow. They then were walking down the B deck and they started talking to each other. Then they went to lunch together and talked for nearly 8 hours. Once in their conversation, Marilyn asked about his parents. He said that they were ok with him eating, talking, whatever with her, as long as he got back by 10 p.m, untouched and safe. She was a little skeptical, but she didn't question it.The next couple of days, they constantly ran into each other, and talked constantly as well. They had become very good friends. On April 14th, 1912, Marilyn was in her quarters reading a book, when she heard the loud screeching noise coming from the starboard side of the ship. She went up to the boat deck to see what the noise was, but she was ordered back to her cabin. She somewhat followed the orders, and instead of waiting in her cabin, she waited in the grand staircase. When it was time to evacuate the ship, she remembered...Antonio.
"I was about to board a lifeboat when i had the deep feeling that i needed to stay behind. I had no idea where this feeling came from until i remembered and realized...Antonio wasn't on the deck. I assumed he would considering his family and the fact women and children were first, but, he was nowhere to be seen. I tried to pass it off but i just couldn't sit there not knowing if he was alright or not...i backed away, and looked for him..."
Marilyn T. Montague, April 15th 1912
She looked for him in the first class areas, as that's where she usually found him, but he was nowhere to be found. She then tried the 2nd class areas. Nothing. She looked and looked but couldn't find him. All she could do now was pray he was already on a lifeboat. Afterward She proceeded to board a lifeboat, and watched in horror as the ship went down.
It was about an hour after the ship had sunk, her boat was one of the very few boats that went back to look for survivors, and to her horror and relief, they found only one survivor...Antonio, still breathing. They dragged him on the boat and she gave up her blanket, and put it around him, while also hugging him tightly.
