My Host's Luck Is Too Unbelievable!

Arc 2.7 - Goodbye, Mother

(A/N : i'm sorry y'all I'm not updating for a week or two. School is starting again and I'm going to be busy for a while. 😭)

The banquet finished quickly, as expected, Layla was the one offered to be Xavier's bride. She was in the top of her class, received praises from numerous well-known teachers, and she also belongs to an influential family that belongs to the same faction as the Greymont's. 

Xavier didn't really like her though, but everything takes time. Leopold was sure he'd make them fall in love. Layla was already interested in his brother from the start, if not, why would she lecture Leopold more than the other trouble making students? Also he knows what kind of gaze someone would give to their loved one, ah. 

She really didn't think he would notice that loving stares she kept giving to his brother during the banquet? 

Furthermore, the Roselia family got prior notice of the event from Duke Greymont, since him and the head of the Roselia's were best friends and all.

"Leo! The banquet is done, hurry up and get out of this room, the servants are going to clean it up." Xavier shouted from the door, keeping it slightly open for Leopold.

He stared at Simon, knowing the magician hasn't left yet, "Well see you tomorrow I guess. Remember the deal."

Simon didn't answer and left from the balcony, how rude. 

Ah, because of that stupid music and Simon, he completely forgot about the female lead. He left the room first, seeing a butler ready to accompany him to the mansion. The butler bowed and started leading Leopold to the mansion.

The journey was quiet, only the sounds of footsteps could be heard. Considering the place where they held the banquet is already behind the Greymont's mansion, the distance wasn't too far.

'Bai Qiu, how was the female lead during the banquet?'

[Host is so mean QAQ, leaving this system alone for such a long time and yet the first thing Host asks about is the female lead. Didn't you miss Bai Qiu, Host? TAT]

'Yes, yes of course I miss you…just kidding. Give me the information~'

'Hmph not talking to Host for the next few days!' The system thought while giving the information that the Host wanted.

[The Female lead was ignored by Xavier during the banquet, yet the Marshall was still entranced by her. Because she had no chance to talk with Xavier, he automatically didn't have an impression of her.]

'Aih, Leopold's brother is really smart~'

The pair soon arrived at the mansion, Leopold quickly bathed and changed his clothes. He almost didn't sleep for the night because he was too damn excited for Simon.

Leopold woke up by himself, while the sky was still quite dark. He changed to his day clothes and walked to the first floor, he wanted to eat while watching the drama unfold today.

Leopold's new maid appeared, "Young master, your breakfast is ready."

Angela was fired because of the previous incident, so a new maid named Rachel replaced her. She was competent at her job and has never disrespected Leopold; he was satisfied with her.

Because of the time, only Leopold was sitting at the table, the Duke would come in a few minutes, while Elizabeth would need half an hour just to get ready. He sat quietly and ate. The table was full of delicious dishes, making him be in a very great mood today.

From the mansion's door came an erratic and violent knocking. Well not knocking, it's more like banging. "Pl-please let me in! I have an urgent matter with the Duke!" The sentence was yelled by a familiar voice. It's the bald man.

The Duke was also coming down the stairs, he told the butler to welcome the guest in. Leopold saw the state of the bald man, looking very pale as if death would approach him soon. It seems that Simon did more than what Leopold asked him to.

The bald man said to the Duke, "I- I have something regrettable to tell you, oh honorable Duke. Duchess Greymont has an illegitimate child and had numerous lovers while being married with you."

The Duke was irritated, not only did he just woke up, he also heard horrible news from the bald man.

"Why do I have to trust you? Baron Richard, you did not even schedule an appointment to meet me. I have no reasons to believe that anything you just said was credible."

Ah, so the bald fat man was Baron Richard.

"Y-you could call magicians and they could detect whether I'm lying or not! I swear on my family name what I spoke just now was the truth!"

In this world, swearing upon one's family name is a very big deal. Duke Greymont gritted his teeth, "Call the magicians! Three is enough."

Leopold continued eating his roasted chicken, staring at the guards who brought the magicians.

One magician told Baron Richard to repeat his sentence, the other two were searching through his memory.

The magicians confirmed what he said was true, the Duke's anger was clearly shown on his face, he asked the guards to drag Elizabeth down here. The Duke did not tolerate any form of disrespect after all, how dare Elizabeth take advantage of him?

"Y-you! Let me go! You realize I'm the Duchess right!?" Elizabeth's annoying screams sounded out through the floor. She was dragged by a guard and tossed to the Duke's feet. She looks like she hasn't finished getting ready yet, explaining how she looked messier than usual.

The Duke stared at Elizabeth with contempt, and then he heavily said, "Throw. Her. Out." 

The guards knew this isn't just throwing Elizabeth out of the mansion, this is also an indication of murder.

Her screams could be heard for the next few minutes, the Duke doesn't seem to care whether Leopold watched his mother getting beaten by his own father.

The Baron had a hint of relief on his face, also scrambling out a note and giving it to Leopold while the Duke was still distracted with Elizabeth.

'Thank me for the gift. I'll come soon.

Simon was short and simple with his words. His elegant writing clearly not matching with his personality. Leopold finished up the last few spoons of his meal and cleaned his mouth with a napkin.

Xavier came down because of the commotion, the Duke saw him and said, "Your stepmother caused trouble. She's no longer apart of this family."

Xavier didn't care much about Elizabeth, he swept his eyes and found Leopold, worrying about him because he knew how Leopold loved her like a normal kid would love their mother.

"Leo, are you okay? Do you need to rest for a bit?"

Leopold agreed and he retired to his room with the help of Xavier, and as he walked up the stairs he heard the Duke talking to Baron Richard, "Tell me, who is this illegitimate child?"

"I-it's the renowned newly discovered Holy Saint, Lilian."
