backstory: nik was born and raised in bonesby. growing up, he was influenced by a lot of older artists and bands and that's when he realized music was his way out of his boring hometown and ended up picking up a passion for music. his father was a drunk, and while he wasn't directly abusive to him or his mom, he would often go into fits of rage where he would destroy objects in the house such as glass plates or lamps. he only started becoming abusive as nik grew older. this led to a lot of nik's songs having aggressive lyrics. he'll very rarely go into depth about the meaning of his songs. he'll just lie and say they came from off the top of his head randomly rather than his own inner rage.

relationship with august: nik used to be friends with august when they were younger, but they grew up and things changed when august started hanging out with the popular crowd. he wouldn't necessarily bully him, but august was an asshole to nik when he was around his friends which was another reason why they stopped hanging out.

why were they at the party/how did they come to witness the murder? he was paid by the party host (can either be a main character or a side character) to have his band play there for the night. after a drunk partier nearly threw up on his guitar and when he noticed the party starting to die down, he took a break and went upstairs to clear his head. shortly after, he witnessed a masked figure stab a senior guy, august, and violently shove him down the staircase.
