Terror Academy, one of the strangest names I've ever come across for a school. The name aside at least their scholarship program is decent, well no, it's amazing. The best in the country actually, still can't believe I actually got in. I shake my head and break myself out of my thoughts when I notice someone approaching me.
"Wallace West?" A blonde haired girl asked.
"Wally," I instinctively corrected, "You can uh- call me Wally, Wallace just sounds too..." I cut myself off, internally berating myself for acting like a complete idiot.
"Well Wally, I'm Artemis." She put extra emphasis on my name and I wanted to smack myself.
She continued with no knowledge of my internal thoughts. "Welcome to Terror Academy, we should kick start our tour. You'll have a few days to remember the layout...so don't worry."
"That's awesome, I honestly feel pretty out of my depth right now. This place is just, wow..." I said, unable to articulate the awe I had for this place.
"Yeah, it's pretty great. I know the academy looks extremely daunting to newcomers. Don't worry though, in a few weeks it will feel like you've been here for years."
"I really hope so, it's a huge transition from Central" I say, looking out the tall arch windows, dread settling in my gut.
"Now on your left out the windows, you can see the courtyard. You would have passed it upon entrance..." Artemis continued to talk while guiding me across the campus.
"...and this, carrot top, is the cafeteria. This is where you get lunch, obviously and if you come early enough breakfast." Artemis ended on.
"Carrot top?" I echoed, surprised that I had already earned a nickname from the girl.
"Yep, cause y'know the red hair?" She said, gesturing vaguely in the direction of my shock of ginger hair.
The academy was on lunch so the cafeteria was pretty packed with students. Although many were on their way out to go sit in the courtyard or along the staircases. My nose picked up a heavenly scent, drawing me out of my thoughts. I began to scan the crowd with more intent, attempting to locate where the scent was coming from.
I made eye contact with a boy with calculating blue eyes. He looked away an instant later. I belatedly realised where the scent had come from and quickly asked Artemis who that was.
"Who? The guy in the red jacket? That's Connor." She asked rhetorically.
"No, the one with sunglasses on his head, next to him." I replied.
"Oh," She said, looking as if she was contemplating her next sentence. "That's Richard Grayson-Wayne, newest-ish adopted son of Bruce Wayne. I'm surprised you don't know him, his family is basically royalty." She continued.
"Richard Grayson..." I say, testing the way his name sounds on my tongue.
"Well, he prefers to be called Dick." Artemis corrected.
"Good to know." I say, unwilling to pull my eyes away from his lithe form.
He looked back at me, as if staring into my soul. I felt my wolf whining to be closer to him but knew I couldn't. Not yet at least. The bell rang, startling me from my staring. Artemis prompted me to move so she could show me where my next class was.
Before exiting the cafeteria, I chanced one last glance behind me and found those burning blue eyes still staring at me before they vanished into the crowd. Goosebumps travelled across my body at his look and I forced myself to continue walking.
