It's funny. The town is called Royal, yet it's anything but. It's dark and gritty with every cobblestone street caked in grime. Crime runs rampant. Most would've tried to escape long ago, but their livelihood is here. Most don't even have enough money to make it to the next town over. The ones that do, rule over the rest of us like vulturous monarchs.
We refer to them sparingly. And never by their names. Simply, The Families.
I dare not speak of them, not even to myself. You'll have to follow along.
By the time my story's over, you'll know their names and more. But it comes at a price. You will see the worst people, bare witness to horrid things, face truth, ugly, dangerous truth. You will leave changed.
Don't say I didn't warn you.
