6. Mehendi, Masti and Misunderstandings

Aisha:

That's just what ended up happening. I literally died trying to get to the mehendi hall. There were no more cars so I did the unimaginable..... I'm pretty sure I looked like a joker trying to manuever the scooter in my heavy lehenga, but I didn't care. All I cared about now was getting to the mehendi hall or else I would have to undergo mamis wrath. Allah bachaye mujhko... aur upar se yeh suraj. Sab Hussain ki galathi hai. actually maine mana kiya par woh aakhri bhar phooch nahi sakte? 

"Ey ladki. Shaadi se baagh rahi ho kya? Fikhar mat karo, mein hoon naa." a drunkard on the street stopped me. 

"Abbey hath jao saaley. I pushed him aside. I wonder what the time is? Please let me be on time. I stoped outside the hall and left the scooter there and ran inside.

Time kya hai please jaldi? I panted to the first person I saw

"Itni jaldi kyu. Agar tumne meri sath aaya toh yeh scooter ki zaroorat nahi hoti. Was everyone laughing at you?" the person asked 

I looked up to find that it was the devil that I had asked for the time. Then I realized, he knew all along, he knew that I would have to walk to the hall or use a scooter. Main dekhr rahi hu jabse tum yaha aaya, tabse mere tangh kheechne ke alava tumko kuch kaam nahi hai. Just tell me the time.

"Yeh toh sach hai. Mujhko zindagi main aur koi kaam nahi mila" he replied smartly. 

Uggh. I just grabbed his hand and checked his watch. okay 5:18. pheww, mami will let me live. I started to walk inside the hall.

"Hey Ms. jaldi thoda araam se jeena" 

I looked back, tum mujhko bula rahi ho?" I asked Hussain

"Haan. I have never seen anyone as hurried as you."

Yeh toh kuch bhi nahi. Mami ko dekh ke bathado kisko yeh naam, ms. jaldi, suit karta hai

"okay then senorita? Kuch logh mujhe kehte hai ki mein Sharukh ke tarah dikhta hoon"

"achaa??? Toh phir mein Kajol ke tarah dikhta hoon." I reply sarcastically.

"Puuh-lease" he says. 

"hah yehi toh. Mujhe joke math sunai ki main Sharukh hoon, Aamir hoon" with that I walk into the hall like I won a debate. 

 Mami:

"Hai Layla kitni sundar lag rahi hai. Meri beta toh khushnaseeb hai ki usko Layla jaise ladki mila" I tell Nafisa

"Ji hume baada khushi ho rahi hai ki ab mera hath khali hai. Mere dono bache settled hai"

"Mamma," Layla whines.

"Main majak kar rahi thi. Obviously hamara ghar ab khali rahega," Nafisa hugged Layla

"I promise I will treat you like my own daughter and you will never feel like you miss your home," I tell Layla

"Yeh kya hui ji. Usko aapne maayke ka ghar bhi jaana hai," Nafisa jokes

"Haan ji par woh toh uski marzi hai." I say smiling.

"Yeh toh bas mehendi function hai. Sab itna sad sad kyu hai?" Aisha enters 

"Shukar hai tumne woh lehenga pehena." I say (Aisha's lehenga is the pic from the side)

"Aaj tum thodi tension main thi. Don't worry tomorrow I will make it harder for you to make me wear what you want." she tells me

"Aisha, you are dancing, right?" I ask
