I walk down the creaky stairs of the place I'm supposed to call home, I can hear my parents yelling at each other. "I'm doing EVERYTHING around this house! You only sit on your ass and drink ALL fucking day!" my mom yells while my dad stands there just listening. I walk off the final stair and I prepare myself for my parents finding awake. C'mon Lucy, you can just zoom past them I think to myself as I stand by the wall bracing myself for a talking to and maybe a beating.

I clench my fists and run past the entry to the living room, I don't think they saw me. I sneak into the kitchen to get myself some breakfast. I heard footsteps behind me and I jumped.

"Why are you up? Did we tell you to get up?" My father asks me glaring down at me, I start to panic knowing what's coming next. I look up at him thinking of an excuse.

"I uh...I was hungry and I couldn't go ba-" I got cut off by a stinging sensation across my face. I fell to the floor, he had smacked me. I put my hand on the mark and want to cry.
"I-I'm Sorry, I'll go back to bed." I get up from the floor brushing off my pants from dirt on the ground. He says, "good." and stares into my soul.

Great going Lucy...you can't do anything right can you? My thoughts come running at me like arrows and I'm the target. They got the bullseye. I walk to my room, up the stairs, and to the left. I close my bedroom door and sit on my bed- starving. "Ugh, I'm so hungry.." I say to myself in almost a whisper.
I heard some commotion downstairs but what caught my attention was the knock on my door. I stare at my door confused on who could've knocked on the door when my parents are arguing downstairs at that very moment.

I slowly walk towards the door, I open it finding two Granola bars on the floor in front of my door. What the.. My head thinks of who could've put these here. I pick them both up and put them in my pocket. I set them on my bed and wait for my parents to settle down to eat them. I unwrap one trying to be as quiet as humanly possible, don't let them notice...I take the granola bar out and take a bite. I finish both in an instant- basically inhaling them both.
I get up from my bed with the wrappers in hand, I throw them in the trash next to my bed.

"LUCY GET DOWN HER NOW!" My dad yells from downstairs, I flinch and go downstairs like ordered. "Yes father?" I say standing on the last stair.
"Lucy we are going to go out- you know the drill, basement- stay there." my mom continues, "No food, no water, just the basement." she says while getting her coat on, father stares at me making sure I don't do anything.

"Okay now go to the basement, we'll be back tomorrow." my mom says while walking out of the house, so does my dad slamming the door behind him.

I wait for them to get in the car and drive off to wander the house while they're gone. They start to drive off, I open the basement door just in case they come home early.
I go to the kitchen and look for food that I can eat without them realizing it's gone, I found some food so I reached out but froze when I heard, "what are you doing? Aren't you supposed to be in the basement?" My dad says behind me, I swiftly turn around but find no one there. That's weird...I think to myself on edge from it. "It's just my imagination, yeah that's it." I say to myself, I grab the raisins out of the cupboard and eat them.

"You're such a pig!" My mom says out of nowhere, I choke on the raisin and look around, no ones there... I push away the thought of them out of my mind and sit in the kitchen.

Just as I thought it was all done there was a crash upstairs, I swiftly look around and then look at the stairs. "Hello?" I say nothing and then I slowly walk to the staircase, I take a deep breath and take the first step to penitential death. My heart races as my feet move on their own, my hands start shaking.

I look down towards the hallway, and then look to my room to see what had fallen. "Hello?" I ask, my voice shaky as I walk into my room, I feel something under my foot I look down and it's glass. "What was this?" I looked at the shattered glass on the floor and looked up- it was my lightbulb. How did that break?
