Inside Otogakure, the Village Hidden in the Sound, was a raven-haired Uchiha. It was the middle of the night, and yet he couldn't sleep. His onyx eyes stared at the ceiling, his mind exhausted but his body awake.
He laid on his bed, exasperated. He had more training to do tomorrow, and a night of unrest just wouldn't do. He shut his eyes, only to open them again when his door creaked open to reveal a familiar gray-haired male.
"So you're awake." Kabuto said, a serious expression on his face. When he didn't hear a reply, he continued, "I thought you would be."
The male walked in, taking in the plain room as he took a seat on his bed. Sasuke looked quite awake, his chakra pulsing with energy, but Kabuto knew better.
"Today is the fourth of April." he quietly told the Uchiha.
"I know." the male replied.
A silence settled on the two afterwards, the duo ignoring the stench of blood that rose up from the room beneath them.
"Why are you here?" Sasuke inquired, his eyes still glued to the ceiling.
The older male gave him a grin in return, "Am I not welcome?"
The boy responded with a half-hearted glare, too tired yet unable to sleep. Kabuto gave a low, chuckle, clearly amused by the situation. Once his laughing had come to a stop, a small yet genuine smile remained on his face, contrasting to the sad look in his eyes.
"You know..." he began, closing his eyes as if to recall something. "I knew someone like you."
Sasuke raised an eyebrow, his onyx eyes finally fixed on him. "What do you mean by that?" he asked, a bit irritated.
"Exactly what it sounds like." Kabuto answered. "A friend from long ago..." He trailed off, pausing a bit before opening his eyes. "He might actually be the reason you can't sleep." he added.
The Uchiha sat up quickly, his eyes inquiring. If there was a person behind his condition, then he may as well know about them. He also wanted to know who exactly would Kabuto consider a friend, even if he was too stubborn admit it.
"Interested?" he teased, receiving yet another glare from the Uchiha.
"Hurry up." Sasuke ordered, his eyes flashing tiredly.
"Well, if you insist..." Kabuto started, staring out into space as he recalled old memories, memories of a black-haired male from a long time ago, when he was much younger.
